Rain Today
Rain today
So I pray
My friend who has a daughter
Who fast-slips like an otter
For sister whose new store
An on-line hope for more
For colleague who needs work
Through academic murk
For brother in show biz-ness
Clarity with stars’ fuzziness
Dogs next whom I park,
Cats who never bark
A world of tender faces
Food and all home-places
Peace ev’rywhere prevailing,
War mindset starts failing
Help us now, our God,
To like us when we’re odd
In knowing how to love—
Hand inside pray’r-glove

Beautiful description of your prayer for friends and loved ones and in the beginning for rain. I like how you describe physically praying at the end: “In knowing how to love—Hand inside pray’r-glove.” Are hands folded in prayer but also folded inside God’s hand too? Not sure but I like those last lines especially. Have a nice weekend Christopher!

Hands in prayer is a wonderful interpretation–and I really like the way you see our hands folded into God’s hands. After all, they are, especially when we pray. Thanks for your engaging look(s)!

Thank you for your affirmation of the poem and for the blessing. God loves us, odd or even. I’m grateful for that.

Oops. Comment just above in wrong place. Not that I don’t thank you for your affirmation, Mandi(!)

Reading your prayer made me misty-eyed–must be the Holy Spirit. My favorite part is “help us now, our God, to like us when we’re odd”–that comforted me. May you be abundantly blessed.

Such a generous prayer, Christopher. The poetic feel is stunning, but nothing stood more than the lovely lovely meaning of this prayer. You are not just wise, you are kind. ❤

I’m happy the quality of prayer is meaningful. The prayers are pretty specific, though I imagine folk could fill in with their own. Thank you!

Yes. Specific and still relatable. 🙂 You are welcome!
