Null Island
It’s busy but does not exist
Zero-zero for map-keepers
Center of everything and
Nothing
Ever have the feeling? If so,
There might be some real
Estate for you
Real?—well, estate as in
Old echelon of society
This one’s all yours, since
No one can possess it
Yes, mine, too

Null Island is an imaginary island located at 0°N 0°E (hence “Null”) in the South Atlantic Ocean. This point is where the equator meets the prime meridian.

Yes, Dajena, I imagine we have the same fantasy-island sellers. Thanks. Blessings to you!

Is it just me, or is the image obscuring the poem?

The image is as official as the island itself, apparently. So I thought it only fair to use it. Null Island doesn’t exist, though it does serve some kind of real-world purpose.
But you;re right–the poem is not about the map anymore than it’s about the island. It’s about feelings and perceptions that are real.
Thanks for seeing that and letting me know!

I love Null Island, even if it doesn’t exist–it is surely a real (and perhaps wild) place seeded with poetry bound to grow and thrive; and I love your note about perceptions–it’s hard to get across to people that what is “real” to someone may not be real to them, but it’s still very real. Love this discussion!:) Thank you!

Clever and nicely written poem. Yes, it seems to be “land” or where our houses are built, are becoming unaffordable for the average person. Not right 😦 I’ll join you on null island.
