This Is What I Care About
This is what I care about
Family—three brothers, sister,
Brother-in-law, sisters-in-law,
Too
Niece and nephews, two
Children in the next generation
Four dogs for now, no cats
I know of (since mine died)
Friends—those who have
Work and those who need it,
Who are healthy and who
Struggle to get through the
Day without so much pain
Neighbors—those who make
Up my community and those
Who try to disfigure it
Peace that hardly yet prevails
Love and grace that it might
Abound
God who doesn’t need me
But regards me as one part
Of creation, anyway
And you
For so many reasons
For I know that you care, too

Lovely poem. Sounds like you have many special people in your life to be thankful for and a God who loves you. Who could ask for more!

Yes, I’m thankful. Not always as much as I should be. And we have a loving God. You’re right–what more is there?

This is so lovely, I can hear that you feel blessed. I will respectfully argue the bit about God not needing you–I have to believe He does need kind-hearted souls who acknowledge Him, and seek to share what He’s given to them. I’m a long way from saintly perfection–yet if He did not need me, I dare say I wouldn’t be here 🙂

Your argument is sound. I don’t know how it works; I guess I don’t have to. God needs me. And you. Thank you.

“Faith” means we don’t have to understand a whole lot 🙂 Welcome 🙂

this is such a blessed post. ❤ you are blessed with great people and with a great heart and a wise mind. 🙂 I so love these lines:
"God who doesn’t need me
But regards me as one part
Of creation, anyway"
It made me realize things I forgot to think about.

I do have great people in my life. Look, I’m writing to one of them. God is everything, yet God has made us. That is amazing. I need to remember that (more), too. Thanks, Rosema!

Thank you, Christopher! 🙂 Amen to that. I needed those words. So thank YOU! 🙂

A blessed circle of people. It is wonderful to see how we are always used by God and I am with you, He does not need us. that would limit him, and His Deity knows no limitation. But again, he chooses to use us, broken as we are, and we choose to follow Him and that makes all the difference.
Blessings and love,
your friend,
Dajena 🙂

In the way you say, God doesn’t need us. Why would perfect need need imperfect us? Yet here we are, and to God that’s valuable. As you (also) say, God takes us broken as we are. I wish there would be greater remembrance that those who started religions were not perfect people. Yet they were used in the best ways by God. And Jesus for Christians? Humanity broke him. His goodness was restored in resurrection plus now the invitation to all to have that.
Blessings from God to you and yours, my prayer–Christopher
