La Alhambra
Space and light
In Arabian style
Arches keeping water
Underneath,
Against an unfolding
Desert view
A perspective that
Lasts for an age, even
As webs of dusted
Sand
Accumulate beneath
It persists, this
Gaze, in the mind
Of romance and an
Art
Accomplished
With insights into all
The infinities we are

I studied the Alhambra in college. Saw many photos. Learned that Washington Irving wrote stories about it. It was built by the Moors and is a tribute to Arabian interest in nature, light, space, even math. It was just about the last place reconquered by Spanish Christians. It is cared for today and stands as a tribute and a crossroad. Recently, I was asked about one place on Earth I’d like to visit. I picked this. Thanks for asking, sister! Where would you like to go?
