Ghost Ship
(Oakland, California)
Emptied of her passengers,
Investigators and skeletal crew remain
Fun with fire, it’s been said of Nero
No entertainment here
No longer
What issues matter to a burning ship?
The dead who ride no longer care
The living must mourn first

Christopher you capture this burned down building used for art, music, and all kinds of creativity, well. An interesting term to use in the article ‘Ghost Ship’ but it was extremely effective in your poem. “Emptied of her passangers” is a strong line to start with and the reference to Nero is interesting as well. A fascinating question “what matters to a burning ship?” But more in the end, you are so right, it’s those who are ledtvliving who morn “first” who are most affected having lost friends, colleagues, children, etc.
