Way
if we don’t care when we get there
detours can be interesting
we might not know exactly where we’re going
anymore
and so find ourselves in something
new
and it’s not a jungle
overgrown
we’re still on roads or, if walking, on paths
we’ll still see houses, trees marching
to greet us
maybe around the bend, we’d like to find
a castle in a wild place
a dragon perched atop, looking to tilt
fang against spar not for life but for
local reputation,
bragging rights at the public house
the thing about the road less traveled
is that others have traveled it
we can go it alone
singing Sinatra like a mantra
(ouch)
but everything’s been trod, everything’s a trail
explored many times by pilgrims
owning a variety of causes
we go to see what has befallen
to know what has been
known
in new combinations
and in company
I believe
Is best

It’s a good point, to enjoy the journey but that we are not completely alone as even paths less trodden, have been travelled down, even if it was long ago. I think we still discover new things, at least for us and also have the benefit of our unique culture and educations to give us diverse perspectives. But I like the meandering feeling of this poem. That it’s okay not to arrive right away but to explore and discover sometimes, better things on the way. Neat piece 🙂

A friend of mine recently pointed me toward an article that challenged how we view the Frost poem. And the article and my friend are right: both roads are given equal value by the poem’s speaker. Then I began wondering about the road less taken still being taken. And that, however or wherever we go, we don’t have to go it alone. Lately, I’ve been thinking about the importance of companionship, its health and necessity. Thanks so much for your response!

You’re right I think. It’s a good thing human or pet 🙂

I enjoy the journey more than destination. It’s the little detours along the way that makes life, in general, interesting. Sometimes even getting lost is the biggest adventure ever. 😊

I agree. I often take drives then walks to no place in particular.
