So Many Things Have Thorns
Saint Paul had a thorn,
I understand
Sometimes I feel as if I’ve swallowed
A rose bush
And the thorns now pierce the skin from
Inside
Watch out, don’t get too close
You’ll hurt yourself

I prefer Christopher in conversation. In writing, I use C L Couch because it’s a genderless form of my name and, frankly, easier—I have severe writer’s cramp. I mean to be a poet writing spiritual and occasional verse. The photographs used permanently here—for the banner, for my profile—were taken by Debra Danielson, a photographer and friend. You may enjoy more of her work at debra.danielson.org. If you would credit me when quoting my work, I'd be thankful. As I am thankful for your presence here.

Such a sad piece. And the relation to St Paul’s thorns where he prayed 3 times to have them taken away from him. I hope you’re okay. I read this, now I m worried. The image of swallowing a rose bush is a very powerful one! And also gives a feeling of such pain. I’m sorry for your hurt and I just prayed for you, will keep praying. The hardest but most wonderful part of this Biblical verse/section is God’s answer to St.Paul
“My Grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness.” This used to depress me almost when I read it too. Then I realized thatGod’s Grace is abundant and he is listening, helping us to endure and get through things, even one day at a time when we’re feeling miserable. Also, we know God is omipotent and all powerful so both His power and grace are larger than life’s afflictions and I do believe, he will never give you more than you can handle, will never desert you, and bless you many times even if right now is difficult. Grace denotes healing and relief, a gift from God anyways and I pray this for you my friend.
