I have to get rid of things
So many books in boxes
Don’t worry, I’ve got some
Hundreds still, around
If they should take in mold
And mildew, well, they will
Though I’ve taken to
Dry atmospheres as well
Too many than I’ll read
They’ll live in piles, waiting
For the ones who will come
After—eager or indifferent

Good morning cl! Sounds like you have a great love for books. I do to and parting with a book is just like parting with a friend! ❤️❤️🌺❤️❤️

Yes, that’s true, hard to let go. All these books in boxes–but they haven’t gone anywhere yet!

Is it because of COVID 19 that you are boxing up?

A number of things came together. I do need more room. I want to move as well, which will go more easily with fewer things. I’m not sure I’ll ever have an office again, which is where most of the books I boxed were living. And then this pandemic time has certainly provided time, especially since I’ve been working slowly.
I’m guessing you have your own library, too?

We moved in September 2017 and haven’t unpacked most of the books. They’re still in boxes in the attic which is drier than the house. We brought a few thousand with us and gave away more than a thousand to charities. It is hard letting them go, but you need a second house to put them it.

A second house, yes. What a good idea!

The book house 🙂

I definitely love my books, and I want to hang on to them until the day I die, in theory. But yes, who wants to cart them all around from house to house, or let them grow moldy in boxes? I’m now trying to purposely read all the ones I have on my shelves, and if they don’t thrill me, if they’re just okay, I give them to charity. But many haven’t been read yet (I collect more than I can read), and I would hate to part with them before I’ve spent time in their pages. So is it the readers who will come after – eager or indifferent – or more books?

I’ve tried not to be a bibliophile, but I do like having my books around. I’ve seventy-some boxes (different sizes) or books to go away. I’d like them to go to a good home. So, yes, I’d rather have the “eager” reader or readers. For now, it’s a conundrum. And I will still have many books once these are, what, fostered? adopted?

Seventy-some boxes? Wow! Maybe I have that many too, if I were to box them up. Are you still moving soon? How is that going? You can be certain those books of yours will find eager adopters! 🙂

I hope to move soon, even though this is an awkward time to work it out. As for the books I boxed, I’d like them to have a new home, first. I’m guessing you have more books than you realize, since, like me, you have more than you can read. But then there’s always something to read, isn’t there?
