God through Sleepy Eyes

God through Sleepy Eyes

x

God through sleepy eyes

I ask for this or that:

For health for my family

Keeping safe my friends

Even my enemies

(safe and far from me)

For some peace everywhere

In the world

And on the other side of sky

For a good day tomorrow

And a pony

(scratch the pony—wait,

now I’m scratching it

between the ears)

There is or should be

More but I am sleepy

And the day is ending

I’ll think of more

Tomorrow

In the new day

In the seconds

As you give them,

As I remember or I don’t

To pray for them

Thank you

And I pray

You have a good night, too

We were on the road in the Dolomites the day before the lunar eclipse with our van when we found out that we are very close to an observatory. We headed off there the next day and took this awesome picture on top of the mountain.

Sore Afraid

x

Sometimes

I am frightened

Maybe you are,

Too

It’s not an easy

Feeling,

Though it informs

x

They are not

Coming back

This feeling means

An illness

A trust is broken

We feel alone,

At last

x

Fear of the unknown,

Sometimes the known

An impulse

From inside

An instinct

Made

From outside

Like layers

Added at the wheel

x

Fear

We should not

Work with,

Fear we must

It’s Time

(x = space)

x

x

It’s Time

(writing, reading)

x

I need to set down

Something

For your interest

Or your pleasure,

Something to

Move you if

Only a little from

Where you are

To where you might go

x

Do you mind the morning?

Do you rest at noon or

Breathe deeply

From time to time?

That’s not me

That’s you

x

Maybe, then,

We share the interest

And the pleasure

In exploring deeply breathing

If in turns

From time to time

In turns

From time to time

Prayers for Alan Alexander

Yesterday was A. A. Milne’s birthday

I didn’t know

And didn’t learn

Before posting time

(which sounds like horses

on the track

sorry, horses)

Anyway and, oh, bother

For not knowing

x

Nothing new to pray for

Regarding supplication,

I suppose,

Except that A. A. be welcomed

Into heaven

And his boy who died some years

After and for us

Some years

Ago

And that both and all

Go on to play in

The Hundred Acre Wood

Until it’s time for honey

Then rest upon the bridge,

Followed by

Trudging up the stairs

To bed

Wolf Moon

(x = space)

x

x

Wolf Moon

x

The wolf cries

For food, for family

For companionship

The monogamous wolf

Who knows companionship

Who knows a mate

And family

And food

And wonders why the Earth

Is barren

Crying for itself

And for its mate and family

x

Crying for its mate and family

And for the barren Earth

That the community

Knows and tells,

It wasn’t always this way

There was plenty

And a law

For every living thing

x

Some nights

What might the Earth and wolf do

But cry

The Way Love Is

(x = space)

The Way Love Is

(Martin Luther King, Junior)

x

Today is the Monday

We set aside

To honor

Martin Luther King, Junior

Whose birthday

Is close by

He is not honored for

Perfection

But for testimony

In words and action

To the truth

That we are equal

And together we can change

The world

For the better

x

He was a minister

Though anyone

Who acts to change

The world

For the better

Is a

Symbol of God

His name was not

At first

Martin Luther

(talk with his father),

But anyone

Who speaks

To truth in love

Is truly on the roll

Of heaven

x

We need truth-talking

And truth-acting

We need to be

Encouraged

We need to act

Together

The children of

Earth for the

Now, the next

Children of

The Earth

On the First Day

(x = space)

On the First Day

x

It’s Sunday

The day Al Roker

Announces in

An echo chamber

I’m not sure why

Maybe his mother

Told him to

Maybe because

It’s game day

I’ll have church

In a little while

Service and Sunday

School in a virtual

(and, yes,

hopefully virtuous)

Way

And the day will continue

We’re expecting snow

In the afternoon,

Over night into

Monday morning,

Which could make

The commute

A mess

De Profundis

(out of the depths)

x

I don’t know why

I feel so sad today

x

The noise above

The coming storm

x

I got some sleep

Am I more aware?

x

It’s Saturday

A day to play

x

Yet I feel leaden

Weighed down with weights

x

The kind that keep us

Sleep at the bottom

x

The sea will take her dead

And raise up at the last day

x

God will reach

Inside the water

x

Pull us up, untie the wraps

The weights will have meant nothing

x

The heavy life

Be done

x

A life with gravity

A dancing partner now

Liturgy is fine

Laid there year by year

Sunday by Sunday

Or Saturday, if chosen

Sometimes daily

Or whenever

x

We pick the pages up

And they have meaning

x

We follow nothing

When we sit

Or lie or stand

And weep the words

That matter more

x

For being nothing set

In stone,

A book resting upon wood

All consecrated,

But what pouring from

The heart

Like rain or wine

Mattering more,

x

The living need

The urgent cry

To God
