the hard and easy life
yet
God is not a spoilsport
as Liddell
says
if only in the movie
God likes
say
and when celebrates in muscle
and in mind
and in
fair conviction
soccer
the world’s game
Rook
the card game Southerners allow
the pleasures in a holiday
the love
we bear each other
God is the god of pleasure as well
as meaning
and simply pleasure to own
as
a creation and
pursuit
some
might say incidental or
byproduct
but
we know who created fun
and
yes
the good clean kind

it is you
I hope it’s you
though I don’t know you yet
but
I could say
is it you
while you could say to me
the same
so if Eve should know
Adam
or reclassify participants
there might be
a garden innocence
about
it
to call it practical
seduction
moral
romance
a merging of our Eden attributions
even
in the inexorable fall
and need to reconcile
our
productivity with our peace
our useful
loves
with love that has no reason
but its own
to exist
and to take over
if
avowed
after all
what did her letter mean
but love conquers
crazy firm
and
keeping against all mortality
as if eternity were here
with us
as well
and it is

feed
such a pretty moment
when I got
to sit in a friend’s chair
sipping guest
coffee
watching and hearing birds
around the feeders
and of these
there was a small brown
and
a black one
and I wish I knew more
as
my grandfather knew
who
charted birds
when the Department
of Interior had
been
formed
yet I don’t know the species
sigh
there was a bird with a bright hood
which was a woodpecker
I think
and one flyer a small pigeon to
me
anyway
and there came a squirrel
which did not
scurry anything away
but
picked at the ground with its paws
the ways the birds
had used
their beaks
and
through air on branches
on the earth
so maybe everyone got satisfied
and also
was pleased
thanks
friend
for the chair
the coffee
and the hour
so
I could think
My Lord
what a morning
as fresh sun strikes the trees
and feeding happened
for
the birds and other critters
in metal branches
and what is
tied
all over and on
for gleaning of the sun-rinsing
ground

the awful now
when
get me out of here
but
keep me here
I’m waiting
trying through small resources to
have something
build something both liked and approved
approved
and
liked
am I not deserving of the least
or
least of least
negative least
as it
were
not for virtue in the first place
or virtue after rescue
from sin
raised
up
from having fallen
be good
or bad and might I have something
anyway
for being here
for
trying
failing
like
she persisting

I wrote about the wars
all
the wars
as there are three great ones now
and battles between
nations
besides and civil violent strife
as well
that I guess might be anywhere
I don’t record so much as encourage perspective
mine
yes
though more so yours for I’d like to raise the kind of
conversation that
could matter
that could lead to change
and
yes
I slant the change
desired
as everything is learning
all is bias
objectivity a tool
even
an aim
but not by impulse who we are
or Earth is
or
Earth’s God is
you see
the bias can be wonderful
we learn each other interests
and
agendas
no more hiding
we may think globally in terms of distinerest
which is not
un-interest
or
indifference
rather
a willingness to surrender one’s own interests first
in order to exchange
to have a dialogue
enact a plan that serves however one is angled
then
another
I wrote on war and will do so
again
and especially while wars are with us
which
speaking ecclesiastically
could be a while
a song of peace
after the borning cry
two
lines of contribution from hymns of Scandinavia
maybe reflects the attitude
after one invented destruction for the one
with others
lean in toward
offering
the prize for peace
think of all those who lived and
died
and lived
fighting
returning if returning
one way of the other
there are the poets
who
remember
and we read their work
there are the women and the men who served
beside
creating services
to keep bodies knit a while
at
least for triage
then ideally to get them home
civilian
scientists
inventors
medical people
and
those moved by cause and insight
say
that of Clara Barton or
Charles Drew
or you
or me
and us
contributing
describing
raising thought and feeling about war
frankly to get over it
and
finally to grow into something better
sets of skills and
fondness for the world
for
the alternatives
say
most of all
for peace

I took the title from something else I was drafting; they are words with many more fine words and engaging notes that make the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” performed by The Tokens and written by Luigi Creatore, Hugo Peretti, George David Weiss, and Linda Solomon, according to Musixmatch
and I suppose the title’s not unique but a few words that anyone might assemble to make a point or set a scene; but I was looking at the song anyway and then, you know, it got in my head the way songs sometimes go winding through, know what I mean?
I worked on other things, shorter things, placid things; but this kept getting to me
from hope to wish to pray
I am
still
but that’s not rested
how are you
are you pent-up
or
relaxed
is your philosophy one affirming
pleasure
and then sleep
a day of love
that’s what I can wish for you
from
far away in time
and space
if not cyberspace and
could
you have such a day how you are in what
you have
if not
then I hope
and will pray that you have
what you need
for
love
practical
strong
delicate
need for care
love
and I remind myself
the teacher
day
means twenty-four and also
an era
day of the dinosaur
or days of Arthur
and so I go
for you both meanings
by
wish and hope and prayer
a day
as in today
and in a life of
good
love
that affirms and grows
planting and harvesting the best
the most
reliable
for days

not everywhere but somewhere
biscuits and water
that’s
what we have
and bless
the Lord
consume him in our church
at
the time
and
we trust the Lord likes poverty
to set us here
and
accepts the hard bread that we offer with
the water of
same kind we were baptized
in
when
choosing to believe
so keeping faith with his blood and body
best we may

quotidian matters
or this war's morning's in Iran
the normal
stuff
the everyday
in
ablutions
fancy word and such
for
bathroom time and then
to dress
because a day is waiting
with stress
and opportunity
so who
leaps out
of bed
anyway
ready
unwashed to joy the day
if
okay
I want
to
jump up to the morning
or the evening
if
third shift
to talk to waking hours
and
God behind the time
or
whatever preposition to apply
but then
to wash for decency
for
civilized acceptance
unless
conscious to exigence
with
immediate contention and
there’s
no clear water
anyway
