Tree-Thinking

Tree-Thinking

There are trees

Blues between the branches

Angled yellow lights

Slicing shadows

Day’s possibilities

At night,

The shadows, you know, will be longer

Sky’s light will change to silver

Trees will seem rougher

And the buildings,

Though they’re not

The night has

Possibilities

Remembering

Not the daytime but its own

Check, Please

Check, Please

It’s a lovely day outside

The sky could be a little bluer

I’ll have to ask when

Ordering tomorrow

And you, what would you like?

Maybe some rain

For thirsty fauna

Or something zephyrous,

A blessing in a breeze

And since it’s you, I’m happy

To be countermanded

Order what you

Think is best

Around

Around

You should have a good day

You deserve it

If it’s not today,

Keep it

In your pocket

Or your bag

Then pick a day

To bring out when you need it

Saying to yourself,

This is a good day for me

And there should be enough

For someone else

Share it

If only a wish

For that one to have

A good day, too

Morning Walk

Morning Walk

I want a normal day so much

One with sunshine through the leaves

Pleasure in the shade

And also where it’s bright

I want a street to walk along

Houses, maybe businesses

Enough to make a neighborhood

I don’t expect a “Howdy, neighbor!”

But real people, living

Publicly, trying to do their best

Enough to hope that privately

Private things are being worked out

It doesn’t have to be my place

My home, my town

This might be only a morning long

But as a present thing, it would be grand

Floating Illusions

Floating Illusions

(title in the pile of stories to be read)

The confession of it is

That I’m glad to be here

And for the moment, for today

Don’t have to be

Nowhere else (I play with

the negative)

Or elsewhere

Even if it’s Christmas every day

The good parts

I’ll stay in my mortal place

Where time rolls

And I think I’m on the stepping stones

Earthly-Minded

Earthly-Minded

Ponder nothing

Take it as it comes

Pondering was yesterday

Then for an hour as a follow-up

Now is the time

For spirit to meet flesh

We have to do something mortal

And again

It’s time, and it’s the life we have

There might be a spark of

The divine

Not to forsake

But there’s the sun with

Outside colors

We must get started

There’s a road

It will not shine this way again

There was a sign

Or simply some hardheadedness

We’ve packed books

Paper and pen with which to write

Impressions

On adventuring

Time to go

The better things are waiting

It’s all right, it’s all still there

Please don’t be ready

A few things, sure

I don’t think we should wait that long

Ourselves

Sun’s Already for a Break

Sun’s Already for a Break

(am I)

It’s later in the morning

Than I like to write

Pre-pre dawn is fine

But I was going through some

Things

Last night and couldn’t resist

A few more boxes first thing this

Morning—proof I don’t know how

To live

I found some old course papers

Kept a few, since I’ve discovered

Sometimes schools really want

To see such things

Kept some student work beside, because

It was good

I notice I’m breathing

A little more, now

Now I’ve had a chance to lift and sort

Keep and throw out

Pleased to have thrown out things

A few less boxes from the office

Or the office

Or the cubicle

I’m here now, and what I do is

Here for now

Well, I know

I’ll probably like the coffee

Fall on Your Knees

Fall on Your Knees

A new and glorious morn

For no reason other than arriving

Nothing special

Meaning all things are

Look for saints outside,

Dodging puddles

Miracles in coffee cups

Epiphanies while

Sliding on coats and gloves

It’s the oddest day, today

For being normal

It’s stunning and spectacular

For no reason at all

Except for what it’s earned

In being here

Attending Nuclei

Attending Nuclei

The spirit of God

Moves across the water

In the bathtub, not because

It’s trivial but because

It’s everywhere

Breathing, laughing, cajoling

Cleaning

As a spirit of God should

Present at creation, making

Things happen, here

And there

Inside the tree but not the tree

Taking part in everything

That’s made

And with us when

We’re washing dishes

More water

Water and air, we need them

Nothing lives without them

Except maybe anerobic cells

That might still cry out

From time to time

For a sip

Adding a speaker to

The microscope to hear

For all the cells

For all the grocery lists

For prayer at breakfast

For flat tires and new children

New cells on everyone

Everything that every second frames

Here endeth not so much

A lesson;

Here starteth—starts–a

Day of days worth knowing

Because when we want,

We find

The day and knowing it

Astounding
