The Body Practical
The human body
Is impractical
I mean
It’s working well enough
Until it isn’t
But what we really need
In addition to nominal
Health
Is an option for gills
That fold away
Until we need them
And we need
Wings
That keep
And when unfurled
Remind us as we fly
That God favors
Us
In making us
And we
At the very least
Owe the favor in return
While we are soaring
And at other
Times
Plunging
Also with delight
Into the depths

Think of lovely things

That’s how the magic works
Children
Maybe
Can do this rather easily
While grown-ups muddle
Through self-judgment
And what will the others
Think
x
This is might be why
There are so many children
There
While grown-ups lag behind
In steepled London
x
The children get it
By not getting it
They take the glitter
(who will clean this up)
Do their thinking
No preamble
Stretch toward the ceiling
Of the nursery
That kept them in

And fly

“So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land!”

Us Icarus
Oops Icarus,
An all-too-fine conviction
Of the troubled ones who
Try too high to fly
And those of us who
Thus fall
I wonder if it helps
That the parent in the
Mythic flight is older
And designer
Of the task ahead
If we learn to fly
Study something of
The design and
Making
Of the wings
Might our take-off
End in a landing that
Makes our flying
Success as well as
Joy
