Genesism

x

We were thrown out:

Don’t blame Eve,

I don’t;

The serpent could have

Just as easily

Caught Adam first

And both fall

After choosing to take bites

x

And if you believe

The woman had such power,

Go ahead—I

Wouldn’t stop you

x

Did they see the angel,

Looking back?

The orange or the yellow

Of a blade on fire?

Feel the heat?

Did they know for sure

They must go another way,

Not to return

For ages?

x

Well, they were given

Clothing,

They were given curses

Also callings,

They knew what they’d have to do

To live;

And so with their descendants,

So with us,

The myth goes on

For hunters and for music;

We build a tower

To do better than the curses

x

The tower falls;

We cannot speak to each other,

Anymore

x

So we build in separation;

Cities rise

And as must follow

Empire:

Strong people rule somehow

And we let their children rule

x

Was it worship

Or respect

Or indifference?

We had our farms to tend;

Soon there would be machines

x

We raised walls

To keep ourselves upon the plains,

Set outposts in the mountains,

Surrounded waterways,

x

And with food

And bright blades

Secured the promises

Of generations

x

Nation went to war

Against nations;

Many gods were worshipped,

Some directed

x

We have stone

And paper manuscripts

And ruins upon ruins

That are testimonies

x

And are we rising?

We hope so;

There are awful, lateral movements

And descensions—call

Them massacres,

Call slavery,

Call rule by one

With only one served,

One living well

x

Democracy is rising;

Call it something else;

We keep at it

x

How about

Soon we grow

Without anything but growth?

x

After-Eden flaws remain;

Maybe we’ll understand at last

Divinities approving

Of mortality,

Mortal accountancy

In meeting needs,

Accountability,

Repentance,

And renewal

x

Rockets go toward the moon,

Soon with people

Who will stay awhile

While we aim for Mars,

Send rockets to the rest;

We hope the Voyagers

Will find friends

x

We’re not perfect,

We’re not even better

x

If we keep our flaws,

And we own mortality

Then we’ll do all right

For legacy:

The joy in now

Sometimes I don’t know

Why I believe in God

Because God is unaffected

By my question

Or the doubt

x

God’s existence being

Unpredicated by my

Belief in God

x

It’s not the best start

To philosophy, though Voltaire

Speaks of our need

To invent God, where the

Need seems to have been

God inventing us

x

The universe

Cosmos, anyway

Might be a random

Set (set randomly)

Of chemical reactions

Given the first state

Of ephemera

Something or place we

Might have called

Etherea

x

Without a place

Or calling it,

God could be

God of random

x

We set the first

Dichotomy as chaos

And order,

When it might have been

Void and substance

x

Our having what we have

Through design

Or the lack thereof

That could explain the

Platypus or

Emu

x

Genesis

Out of genesis,

More than ex nihilo

While God cogitated,

Then declaring to the host

That more

Company was needed

Like the first,

The universe before

The universe

A Little Hermeneutic for a Saturday Morning

A Little Hermeneutic for a Saturday Morning

(1 Corinthians 12:17)

If all were an eye

Which is a phrase I heard

(maybe in translation)

Then the body would have

Nothing else to do

Beyond looking

Sounds dull and

V R notwithstanding

Two-dimensional

Only when the body is all active

Is there interest and

Engagement with all the creation

That’s around us

And with the Genesis maker

We can say

(we have mouths)

That this is good

Parabling

Parabling

(Chapter 10, Actions of the Apostles)

The sheet unfolded

Peter saw so many things

And was told they are all

Good

Enjoy it, Peter

This is the bounty of the Earth

Fertile plains surrounded by

Its hills and all its oceans

Kosher is important

It’s devout and, frankly, safer

But how could there be

A kosher forest?  Or a kosher

Ocean or a sky?

All that is created and blessed

Is in the litany of Genesis

And that is good

Darkness and light

Water and land

Animals and our charge

To care for it all

Everything that bore the movement

Of God’s spirit and carries

The imprint, still

Having been made

Against the loneliness

Of God

Peter’s solitude is challenged

The exclusion of society

The orthodoxy of an elite

Must open the door

Rend the curtain

Opens its doorway

Baring the inside

Of robes and crowns

Relent, ye wealthy of the Earth

You are not Solomon

Who knows whose obedience

He owes

And a better nature

Demanded in a daily life

Turning over all the neighbor’s need

Like finding small, hard, and fibrous plants

To harvest from dark soil

Peter is enlightened;

Through the story,

Now are we
