God Love You like a Lizard

For

(maybe) it’s not that easy

Pastures Green

Pastures Green

x

We ask you

You are near

To take us with you

After

As you let us go

Before

With this strange back-and-forth

The holding

Letting go

For the between

x

The life we know

Best we can

Or may

Given potential

And our choices

Matter more

Until

They done

Evolving to obedience

Rejection

Nothing more

x

To train like angels

To rebel

Like angels

To resolve

The war in heaven

So that admittance

To the new Earth

Is allowed

x

A heaven

Made for one

Which was hell’s agenda

Now thrown open

Like windows

Upon spring

From mansions

To interpret

A party in the courtyard

With victory overwhelming

All remembrance

Love and food

For news

Living water all around

For

Life and safety

Wings and colors

All released

For good

Where did this quiet

Come from

With the light angling inside

Yellow for benediction?

It is a gift

Of spring’s first day

It is happenstance

I don’t care

I’m thankful

For the quiet

And the colors

And the benediction I’m

Taking these to be

Thanking the one who blesses

Everything

In creating

And renewing

Like green rising from brown

Made and remade

And by the way

A gift of oxygen

For us

Watch Your Dogs

x

Dogs don’t like fireworks

Many veterans don’t

All kinds of people

Be with them

Sit with them

Support K-9 programs

Support people

Not everyone likes fireworks

Hello, July

x

Hello, July

It’s hot and humid here

Not much more to say

But, well

x

There’s a lot of green

And other colors, too

Not like fall

But everything that lives

Does fly and otherwise

Visit us a season

As if

Forever’s come to call on

Bees and butterflies

x

The fireflies

Still have a season

Though, like strawberries,

They flourish in June

Around here

x

Storms appear and fall

Blow things around

Hot and wet fronts bumping

Around

Generally, we say

We need the water

End of June

End of June

x

Six-thirty on six-thirty

June is ending

In the north it’s bright

There might be

Evening cool

And somewhere nightingales

Calling to the larks of dawn

July rising

Count the days

June hath thirty

The next month one day more

The summer count of days

(south it’s winter)

Continues

So green in places

Not yet time to think

Of turning into autumn

A peak of season’s glory

In our minds,

Trying to soften

Angles and edges

Of a hardened world

While green means life

And some might say retreat

Shade is good

And breezes, too

Moments for gratitude

And summer supplication

Taproot

x

The brown blade sinks

And feeds the seed

That was a part

x

Seeds that sleep through

Cold time

Far enough

North or south

x

Something new and all the same

For being new

Will rise in spring

Leaves and parts

Of leaves

Here and there

Brown from fall

Pressed down

By winter

Mission accomplished

x

Green from spring

Ready to scoot

Along

Time for discovery
