The Invitation
God is love
And if you wish to live with love
Then you could know the source
And be encouraged
Helped
In this life
To the next
And if you wish to live with hate
Then you could get to know the source
Of that
The nothingness
To have
In this life
And the next
That’s pretty much
The way of it
Love or
Its absence
Choosing one
Or the other
The rest is ignorance or luck
And it’s likely as you read
You will have neither
For your own
Lesson and
Salvation

So what shall we say,
Shall love have us
Or hate?
Shall we hate our neighbors
For their differences?
Straightforward questions
On a day when nothing new
Is under the sun
x
But we can make it new,
Should we drain our scorn
Like pouring out
The rain barrel for
The change
Into nourishing places
That don’t need
To be so parched
Anymore
x
We can grow
And nurture other things to grow
Until there’s verdure
In the sunshine
And the rain,
Everything growing in balance
For the change
x
I write on an angry day
Because I have to alter it
I need my spirit
I should care for yours

Deconstruction
The sky cries into
Chiseled ground
Wedged open by sin
Up on the hill
The day is night
And love is hate
All things turned over
As a shovel upends soil
To dig a grave
