Laboring the Day

this has been Labor Day
in the USA
and
did we labor
which would be the un-point of the day
though
someone has to work
and many
certainly
to keep the lights on
or to have cooked before the picnics
and
all details managed for
well
everything

but a day to recognize
the work
that
we could say
built
and builds the nation

all those who go unrecognized
for
roads
and factories and
offices
on all the other floors

and
though I can’t help but think of mothers
I can also
think
respect all workers
everywhere

and
on this day
for these
by our practices for tributes
say
in picnics and fireworks

and
on to school and all our work
together
as today into tomorrow
