Everyone has

Secrets

I suppose

Given time

I have mine

They feel lonely

Though I imagine

There are always

Other people

At least

The other ones

Affected

x

But it feels lonely

All the same

And even though

They might

Go back

They feel aged

As if I could only

Have such things

When I

Am old

Or as any

Age this way

With more time

For wondering

x

The circumstances

Have passed

Mostly long ago

And that’s something

Maybe an ingredient

For

A recipe

For eating isolation

x

Enticed

To tell

Is an easier thing

To forego

Some weariness

In life

Makes it so

x

That I

Don’t want to

Realize the energy

And

All the pain up high

Again

And then

As it drops through

Me

x

Maybe

Rolling then

Sliding

To the deep and

As you know

The darker parts

Of Freudian-

Or Jungian-

Chemicaled water

To push through

Or tread

In bouts

For endurance

Again

x

I will say this

That

When reminded

What I carry

That I could lose

All secrets

In the light

And lose

All these

Damnable burdens

Sounds pretty good

Sounds pretty

Light

2 poems—a dragon and the presence of the Lord

2 poems—a dragon and the presence of the Lord

x

x

A Dragon Calls

x

Sigh

A dragon calls

With a harness

For a human

And a land

To fly me to

Or bring me back

As I might choose

x

Thank you

Dragon

I’m sorry if I can’t

Pronounce your name

Though I think it time

To say yes

And fly away

x

A wizard might arrive

With a great horse

On the porch

Though that is the final story

For another day

x

x

In the Presence of the Lord

x

I’m thinking spiritual

The presence is

Well

Everywhere

I’d like to think

Imbued in everything

x

But after making

And our due to credit

The rock does not have you in it

Though the storm

However much we feel

The preternatural push

x

I might find you

In the molecule

Or on the comet

Inside Leviathan

Or in the upholstery

Of the seat

Next to mine

On the plane

x

But that’s because

You are in my own

And everyone’s

You make it

And your own it

And you lend it

x

And inside the nucleus

You are there

In each one

You are there

Not a pantheistic impulse

But to say here’s love

In each particle

Sub-particle

Don’t miss it

Remember August

Starts in gold

And ends

Overlapping

With the wind

x

The next month is seven

Prior for the emperor

Who never was

And was the first

x

Ten months

And we have twelve

The ones we know

Who count the calendar

Finally

The pope’s way

x

But each month

Has a treasure

In its story

x

This month starts in gold

And ends with

Windy promises

In these parts

Of autumn

x

Unique

What happens

In your days

Divide them up

And celebrate

The units

In your month

And what I hope is your

Many-monthed story

all of us

(x = space)

x

x

all of us

x

God loves us

don’t forget

never mind classic

four spiritual laws

there are hundreds

and there are

only two

love God

and each other

x

and try live in peace

one planet

after all

one set of resources

one people

other species

ready to take over

should we fail

x

eschew greed

its systems

destroy everyone

no one escapes

outside

its paradigm

anyone left

who escapes

theft and hoarding

is a victim

x

is there a war

outside the Earth?

who knows

we’ll find out

no need to rehearse it

here

the war in heaven

or inside the cosmos

might be timed

to be our own

once we know

what it is

to have a world of joy

joyful accomplishment

practical

at peace

x

accomplish these few things

and the world

among the worlds

has a chance

before

heaven’s disposition

and ending to its war

on our plain

x

try joy

try pleasure without consequence

not an invention

a relative impossibility

but touch

the sacred

the proper and the wild

(chronos and kairos)

because the sacred’s there

and we may have it

even in

the smaller

simpler things

x

and as a world

rise to affirm

the glory of the Lord

that we don’t make

but finds us

when we’re good

when we’re complete

when we’re sanctified

agreeing

that the better parts of heaven

should be explicit

on the Earth

x

love God

love each other

that’s really all there is

these two

the starting point

the terminus

and all we need to know

The Flying Mouse

(x = space)

x

x

The Flying Mouse

x

It’s supposed to be

Hot today

The next two days better

Maybe I’ll stay in the dark

Enjoy the cool

If only the idea

Of shadows

x

Why do bats like

The night?

Clearer for navigation?

The flying mouse

(the fledermaus)

Small and fast

They startle us

Though I doubt

Each other

x

We should be on

The side of bats

Peer mammals

Who eat lesser (sorry)

Things

We would more rather

Not have around

And so be less infested

Thank you

Stellaluna

x

It’s supposed to be hot

Today

I’ll think I’ll stay inside

In the dark

Light up this screen alone

In bouts

To keep some strain

Off my eyes

The ones that see

The ears that hear

That taste

You know

The doctrine

Taste and see

x

They have wings

And are we jealous?

I hope not

It’s not their fault

And they fly

With small glories

To the Lord

I started out begrudgingly, more of an exercise.  Then as I got into it, I liked it more.  I enjoyed drafting and revising this.  And I like the image from Australia.  You, of course, don’t have to like any of it.  I’ll still think highly of you.

x

women’s Bible study

x

I should mention the women

Eve

Rebecca

Rachel

Sarah

Miriam

Jezebel

Ruth

Esther

Judith

(whom for strength

perhaps

the Protestants

excoriate)

Susanna

Mary

Elizabeth

the woman at table

the woman at the well

(without a name)

the woman in adultery

(without the man)

Mary

Martha

Mary

Mary

Sapporah

Priscilla

the women in

the final revelation

x

they shouldn’t have to be a block

a ledger of names

and credits after

though we treat the men the same

and maybe God

matters of categories

x

and are these women metaphors

yes

in addition to blood-and-muscled lives

one by one

to save the rest

and

sacred

and secular

bring salvation

into light

and also night

all the hours

all the real stories

toward eternity

Yet Another Pledge

(x = space)

x

x

Yet Another Pledge

x

Enough money

For food

That’s what she says

And the spokesperson

Iterates

Enough money indeed

Food insecurity

We call it

Issue-words for hunger

I suppose

And do we understand

Who needs to understand

How it is

To miss the money

That our planet should provide

Since birth

x

For us

Perhaps

A tissue argument

So thin

To be unreal

Like the gossamer wings

On made-up creatures

Though this hunger

Is for real

And threatens to take lives

And takes them

And this forestalls that

Worked somehow

To succeed

For under twenty dollars

Each

And there’s a t-shirt

That

No one can eat

Hilary’s been visiting

With water

Wind

Pages of destruction

Formed by words

Of storm clouds

We run away who can

There is great sense

In this

Those who can or must

Weather

Well

We weather

Waiting for her to pass

Astarte

Or Ba’al

Some god in the storm

We do not sacrifice

On stones

Or inside fires

Elijah’s altar

Would be dowsed

By Hilary

And so prove the faith

When manifest

The truth

Is given

Wait

Maybe wait as those

Who wait upon the Lord

Except for the things

That are destroyed

And us

Left in the center

Trying to stay

On the mortal side

Of all this

How long until

The juggernaut

Leviathan

Has passed

Here

We could use water

Someday shall the satellites

Serve us

With such saving deliveries

To here

From there

Both termini

The people

With our properties

Yes

Our things on Earth

Kept

As rescuing

And keeping can

Stay live

As you and others

Can

Nothing else matters

Until this

Until us

x

a course in homiletics

(to talkers from the hearers)

x

what preachers call

the inexorable return

of the sabbath

x

this is regarding preaching

that in the life

does not go away

until that part of life

is done

x

a homily

a holy guess

its own divining thing

at least once a week

with time off

not for behavior

but

well

time off

x

a chance

an opportunity

to say with some authority

of text and the community

that God exists

and God is love

and God through Jesus

saves the rest of us

while the Holy Spirit

guides us in an amazement of

an inward way

x

lectionary

maybe

a series to a theme

the season

and the calendar

of sacred time

and secular

x

an aim toward a generic kind of prophecy

an affirmation

but don’t unhook

a line of challenge

that shall run throughout the day

into the week

x

those six days

when most of us

are out here

and this is our chance

to take

something from here

x

greed systems

risking the right and wrong of things

in the world

and inside us

x

we’re only human

after all

which excuses us

maybe by degree

factoring age

existence of faith

with accountability

x

(now

don’t be sly

to think

if I don’t believe

then I’m off the hook

for right and wrong

and the discomfit

of the judgment

and the book

some book

maybe the one up front

and in the racks

corresponding)

x

our job

is to listen

and respond

and if we want

something more interactive

we may say so

x

even the magisterium

allows

for dialogue

in proclamation

x

the average size

non-Catholic

congregation

in the USA

is about two hundred

good for acoustics

and a range

of microphonic possibilities

x

a number to reach

and to reach back

while we’re all here

when we return

and in those six days

while all of us

are out there

x

a message

three points

twenty minutes

(what the Presbyterians provided)

really

though

allow for some elasticity

for as someone else has said

(might have been me)

you cannot program

the Holy Spirit

or what stirs inside

the tabernacle

and all consecrations

sabbath day

and time

x

your time

our time

God’s time

we might say kairos

though

yes

we know

some congregants

are bold to check their watches

for some (ersatz) sanctity

we believe

chronology

bears better

x

we’re all here

let’s have a time of it

let’s seek the Lord

who presence

is not hard to suss

or sing

or dance sometimes

or testify

each time

x

so that the talking

and the hearing go

and more importantly

the doing

before

during

and after
