God, love us

From afar

And in our cells

From walls to nuclei

Better than gravity

Your affection

Keeps everything together

Not that the loss

Is chaos

Everyone needs chaos

From time to time

But you know that

You know us

Made us for chronos

And for kyros

x

In time

(both kinds),

We shall know all

Certainly beyond

The truth, beauty of Keats

We’ll know the beauty

In rushing fear

As well as the bridge

That rescues over

x

We’ll have something

Of the knowledge

You meant

To bend the tree

In its own time

And yours

And ours,

Once ready

We’ll have it right

And better yet

We’ll know the love

The makes it

And respects it

Living the lessons for us

x

After the nightmares

When dreams lead

To healing wakefulness

New plans for action

We may make

Together

All togetherness,

The good

The sanctioned

The unplanned

That makes a heaven and an

Earth

At first

At last

Lessoning

x

If we pray

There will be answering

Not skywriting

(that would be nice)

Or writing on the wall

(not so nice)

Probably silence

For a while

Then something turns

On hinges

A piece of fabric twists

The wind shifts

Warm or cool

Pushing one way or

The other

Something

Somehow

Indicates direction

The asker might be the actor

Or others shift

And move that way

Somehow

(often changeably)

A way is formed

An answer

Every time

The El Yeso reservoir is a reservoir in Chile located in the Andes mountain range at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level, in the San José de Maipo commune, Cordillera Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. Where we found incredible colors and tranquility.

God,

To be prosaic

We need help

Our stories need more chapters

To fill in for burned-up pages

We moved too fast

Precipitous

And greedy

With a friction

That burned up

Our other efforts

x

Slow us down

Give us time

To think

Push us into

The clearings of the forests

Of the world

And by the oceans

In the desert

Surrounded by the mountains

And volcanos

Titans called back in service

Prometheus released

To decide again

About the gift of fire

x

I’m sure the circle

Of the Earth

Is a lesson

We take, we use,

We throw it out

To find and fund

The use of the world

Again

We use

And we renew

Breathe out poison

That the plants take,

Gift us with oxygen again

x

The circle is unbroken

For all the rich who try

And those with

Bent understanding

Of the power

That never was for our us

Without repairing

Turning back

What Earth can use again

And thus to our sustaining

And creating

Over ages

Signing Up

x

I’d like to pray for you

I know I don’t

Exactly need your

Permission

But there is some respect

Involved

Discretion

You might be bothered

And I won’t expect

Gratitude

x

Maybe I’ll pray badly

With too many

Starts and stops

And stutters

Maybe an angel-coach

Will nudge me

To desist

Stop dissembling

Get to the matter

To the reason for this natter

x

The Spirit might say

Please,

Let this one alone

To try

Resist evaluation

Put the book away

This one has faith

Help the unfaith along

x

I won’t ask

The prayer is up to me

And to the hearing

Once received

But who is on our side

Is not to worry

In the world

When

The one who made the sides

Who allows

Is listening

Prayer for Angry Neighbor

x

I’m going to ignore you

And pray for you

That you find what you want

Not as you want it

(sorry, that’s a spiritual rub)

But as one perfectly

Provides

And you are happy

As you’ve never known

x

I guess that’s not

So much ignoring,

After all

It’s the other stuff

The stuff that you throw

Down as if to say,

Challenge me

I’ll take you on

Though what you want

Is brittle

And could shatter

With what is left

Call them fragments

Call them splinters

Call it defeat

x

That’s probably too much

To pray for now

To keep it simple,

Pray for peace

On the inside for you

God,

A petition for this morning

While the sky is gray

And the sun

Is in the offing

Waiting to push through

x

Follow us

To catch us when we fall

Or to pick us up

Dust us off, after

Or simply be around

Because the negative is not

Enough

And if we rise with you,

A certain kind of sufficiency

Of economy

The science of

A real enough and more

May follow

x

Really,

We don’t need so much

Less than we think we do

Then out of

Small largesse,

When that’s all we have,

We may help

The other

Not a sly metaphor

But a person

Real people

Real needs

Not holiday

But quotidian

Every day,

You know

x

All this is real

And thankful

To be prayed

They Seek Him There

x

O God, our help

In ages past

Our hope for years to come

x

And what do we need today

But to know you are near

Some miracles would not go

Amiss, I must confess

(unless they do)

For a week of flood and fire

End or start to war

A sickness that has taken many lives

Corruption from the fruit of Eden

For the way we ate

For the way we live

For the way we want to live

On this side or that

Amen for Catharsis

x

You came

Dear God

And you were here

You were what I couldn’t see

The voice beneath the noise

Something soft yet muscled

Beneath the brittle strength of

The world

x

I don’t know about the timing

I wasn’t thinking clearly but

Have no doubt

Your arrival

Was perfect

In the way

Every plan from you

Is manifest

x

Now in a time of peace

An hour, the next minute

Maybe a day–this

Side of things

Is too partial

And imperfect

(not like grammar)–

And now I go about

Again (imperfectly)

To try to serve

To try to balance out the wills

Of people

And of nature

With my energy

x

And have I said it simply,

Lord

x

Lord,

Thank you

Petitioning before the Storm

x

Later today

Ida comes to call

With too much rain

For an area

That is soaked already

There should be floods

x

I’m sorry

I’ve been praying for myself

I’ve been praying

For you, too

x

But I need the power

The electricity

My heart needs the help

Frankly, in the summer heat

And afterward

I’ll need to get around

For bread

x

Maybe I’ll get or keep

(since nothing

will have changed)

My petition

x

But I need the prayer for me

I hope there’s understanding
