A Day with Rings

x

How is your day today

I want to know

Did you clean something

Or negotiate

With dust bunnies to

Back away with company

x

It’s the weekend

You might not have the weekend

Expectations change

Deadlines

And work quantities

This could be a day of play

The virtue of busyness

Our construct for a while

Notwithstanding

x

Whatever is involved

Have a good

Deserved day

Please

And thank you

Slip-Sliding Petition

God, I’m tired

Not tired of life

But from lack of sleep

Dreams

That wear me out

So that I’ve lived a day already

Then try to rise

Into waking,

Real agendas

x

This is a prayer

Maybe I could ask for something

x

x

x

I can’t think of anything else

I’ve drifted off

Into Saturday

Or something like

Is Saturday a prayer?

Amen

A Human Gift

A Human Gift

x

God smiles on a Saturday

The human invention

Of a weekend

An extra day for homework

Sleeping in, perhaps

Housecleaning

Or play

x

It’s a gift we gave ourselves

Along with ending child labor

In “Satanic Mills”

And the imposition on the profit-makers

Of an eight-hour day

For manufacturing iron and steel into

Gold and empire,

All of which happened

With agrarian losses

And also serfs and lords

In the old system

Classes turned into attitudes

x

It’s more complex, of course

But doesn’t bear a quiz

This is the day we have

(not everywhere)

An extra day for homework

Sleeping in, perhaps

Housecleaning

Or play

A Gift to be Free

A Gift to be Free

It’s a Saturday for God-thinking in

The easiest way possible

No one expects anything at least

In my culture

(weekend in the USA)

There’s mass on Saturday

A smart invention of the Catholic church

But even then it will go easier

Litany from a hammock

Prayers while kneeling

In the garden

What does God want of Saturday?

Sixth day of creation

I think we were made

Though a day to God

Might as well be an eternity

To our thinking

We are the human gift

Invention for our industry

Now limit the hours

Keep it to five days

(four days in Europe)

Send all the children home

From factories forever

(the world waits for this)

It can be a day for thinking and rethinking

For new ways to slide in

Supplanting what needs to be overthrown

Inside,

Confirming what is wise and

Always

Let’s enjoy the first half of the weekend

Tomorrow should be even better

And if your sabbath’s done

Then divine gifting

Is already yours

And if your sabbath’s an invention

Enjoy humanism-giving

In rest or play

In other words, the day is yours

The day is ours
