Starry
I guess I’ll leave the stars up there
and make some new ones here
with glue and glitter,
lots of glitter,
sweeping up
after.
And I’ll find a paper-punch
and string
to set them from below at heights and
up high tape or (more) string or something:
maybe,
you know,
a coat-hanger
and use the hook on top
to have a mobile,
stars of mine
and my own dreams.
And if you ask,
I’ll talk about them—stars
and stories,
you know,
share them.

Crusoe
x
It took me years
And years to come
To understand
The need
The requirement
To have a life
To have a life to offer
x
Then there is a story
Pages
Chapters
With an ending
That might satisfy
A larger world of woe
And grace
Even rescue,
Notwithstanding
x
What is left
Is little time
The gift grows smaller
Like some things
In other tales
But we have time
As is
On this side
And choices
That are not invisible
In fact,
Are rife with potency
x
The grace of God
Love and understanding
Growing up at last
The tragedy
The humor
The finality
Of wisdom
On this side
Then to another shore
An irony for Crusoe

Pooh and Paddington Meet at Victoria Station
I thought this was a place as good as any
We could have picked, ah, you know, Paddington
You have a station named for you?
No, you see, it’s where I was found
Oh, yes, I was once found—then I got lost again
Oh, I’m sorry
Yes, well, I was on my way to Paddington to meet a friend
To Paddington?
Or was it on the way to Friend to meet a Paddington?
Yes, well, shall we have tea?
Would you like to share some tea and honey?
Oh, yes, very much
Good, I’ll take the honey, thank you

Penultimate
Where do we go from here?
Life on Earth diminishes
Human life, animal species
Extinct, genii of plants within
Which might have served
Chemistry for fixing disease
We look for life out there
And why not: that’s what’s
Next
But for today, while we’re
Still here,
Build a world that someone
Else might want to visit, work
With us, share
