The Topic Is Admonishment

(Sunday morning sermon and discussion)

x

Well, let’s see

God admonished Moses

And admonished worse the rest of

The Israelites

The donkey admonished Balaam

Elijah admonished Jezebel

Ananias and Sapphira were not given

Time to be admonished

But were killed for lack of generosity

And lying about it

x

Admonishment seems to be

A touchy theme

How are we to do it

Without getting killed?

x

Well, we are,

I guess,

To do it

Though I think it has to be

In an absolutely constructive

Fashion

In which we ask each other first

Who we are

And how we are

And why, in love, this is necessary

And then we go ahead

x

Knowing we might lose

The relationship

And lose in other ways

Stones on the path

That God does not remove

Before we strike them

And now

We must do something

Even though

But knowing

That the path continues

On the other side

3 Colossians 16

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

(New International Version)

1 Colossians 28
We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.

today good people

met

they talked

and prayed

maybe did the praying

first

it’s Sunday

but it could be on a Friday

or a Wednesday

or a Tuesday

you know, any day

I’m sure

in any hour

x

they pray for other people

for the Earth

for peace

for wisdom

for discretion

when it truly is

the better part of valor

x

they won’t quit,

these folk

they’ll meet again

talk and pray

or maybe pray first

All the Saints Are Quick and Dead

All the Saints Are Quick and Dead

(for 14 February, anywhere)

Today’s the day for love

Where were you yesterday?

Out shopping for me?

Nice

But I could use your help

Please don’t let that be a present

If I’m strident, then I’m sorry

But you know how

Things press

And if you don’t, please stay

Roll up your sleeves, as if

To help with dishes

Or the vacuum

(hoovering, they call it)

Or my life

Really, I don’t make it grand

But with you, I’d bear it with style

Let’s sit down

Yes, light a candle

Talk about your small things

And of mine

We can work our way along

To the high and mighty, if we want

Or the inside place

Between extremes

Where each of us lives

All the time

The ministry of saints

Is fine for doctrine

And there’s visitation, too,

I understand

The ministry of presence

Nothing like it

Who Loves Life? (based on the shootings at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs)

Who Loves Life?

(based on the shootings at Planned
Parenthood in Colorado Springs)

Pro-Life should not kill
People who exercise choice
Do not hate life

Planned Parenthood should make
Sure all options are given; there are
Good people who are Pro-Life

But the debate is over once
Guns are used, and
It has failed

Can we talk again? Let’s
Hope so; otherwise, what’s left
Is to kill again
