today

Please Wait

Please Wait

Wait

I have something for you

It’s today

I don’t know if you need it

But please take it, anyway

No cost

All you have to do

Is wake a little

In barely an existential way

I don’t mean to pry or push

I didn’t bring the dawn

I’m only asking

For a little time

Go outside

Sponge up everything you can

You don’t have to return

But I’ll wait

In case

You do

It’s fine, I have a book to read

And I can put my life on hold a little

Because the time is worth it for

Discovery of meaning

And if you’ll have it

Maybe you’ll tell me

Maybe not

This is yours

All this is yours

It’s all for you

Redemption in small moments

Sometimes it’s the best

We get to have

An affirmation of a gift

From me to you

On behalf of

One who calls down the day

Each time

Until the last

When small becomes gargantuan

Each thing matters more

For being minor

Yes, I’m not a caller

Not a surrogate

Simply who gets to say, now and then

Yes, it’s all for you

Solacing

Solacing

I’m tired, but it’s the kind

Of tired that comes from sleeping for

A while,

Waking up and wondering what time it is

The clouds and unspring-cool help

This along

But it’s not unpleasant disorientation

I know I’ll rise

And this day will happen

Coffee and toast,

The closest thing to routine

It seems allowed

A normal day, what’s that?

I couldn’t tell you

I don’t fear boredom but

I fear being dull

Like the poor boy Jack

Life should have sharp edges not

For cutting but for

Carving toward brilliance

As if whittling wood could

Somehow make a diamond

Nature says hello

Me, too

I hope we both cooperate

I’d like you to have this day as well

Lent 38

Lent 38

Today must be the day

After a season of surrender

Otherwise, loss becomes a vacuum

Other things that we don’t need

Will come to live

Because nature will otherwise abhor

We cleared out distractions

Others are in line

But what do we want inside?

A virtue of busyness awaits

Preoccupations that are less than healthy

Frankly old sins, patterns of

Destruction that laugh like imps

Want to be reinvested there

We turned out the fat and sugar

Turn out some devils, too

Let them abscond with what they have

Escape into the darkness

Where exorcism

Or psychology might reach them

Some battles are beyond us

Some are right at home

The war at home

Today is what I

Have.  Tomorrow is far off.

The wind will take me.

I’d rather have the

Cool breeze and warm air to take

Me to tomorrow

Will you join me in

Tomorrow?  We’ll need each other’s

Company today.

I Am Born Each Day

I Am Born Each Day

(so are you)

I don’t know what to write about

Today

Do you?

If so, please tell me

Write me

Hah!

Sometimes I get confused when I awake

If it took a while, the sleep world

To enter,

Then I’ll struggle upon leaving

That happened this morning

Where I was is where I thought I am

When making worlds, there is clothing

To consider

What kind of food, what kind of time

To have in there

Today, morning light

The real thing

Broke in

Overtaking everything

Painting the dream away

I faced a blank wall

I guess I’ll have to use my own materials

To make a work of it

It’s bright outside

There is good help available

I simply have to turn, take up a brush to try

Something for Tomorrow

Something for Tomorrow

Some things are pithy

Some things are brazen

Some things are refined

Some wisdom is succinct

(though philosophy is not)

Don’t cry into your beer

Unless you want the taste;

Spitting into the wind

(as Croce advises)

Has the same problem with

A taste of something awry

(and maybe disgusting)

Love as if it were tomorrow

A gift set on your step today;

Find the joy,

If any joy be had

Endurance, if that’s all there is to have

Time is a possibility

(and love always a reminder)

Nietzsche and Kierkegaard Advise

Nietzsche and Kierkegaard Advise

Out of the darkness

It’s only nighttime and some sleeping

I enter into a daytime of

New possibilities along with the old

Together,they become ongoing

Purposes

Strategies

A campaign, maybe two campaigns

Something for today

Something that will help to keep me going

A dream into tomorrow

If there is sleeping

If there is dreaming

If there is tomorrow

Though today must matter more

It’s what we have

Hero Today, Please

Hero Today, Please

Beneath Glastonbury tor

Lies who knows what

Maybe it’s better to

Let the legend lie

Until the ground is split

In later days

And the hero rises

This is what it means to be

A once and future story

So real a return is

Promised

We must have it again

In greatest need

And for now, each time

We need to have the tale told

In present time

In days requiring

Some solace while it’s raining

Or inspiration as of

A venial

Version of an

Easter morn

Before the Formal Feeling

Before the Formal Feeling

When there’s pain,

Everything enwrapped that might be good

‘Til sight is pushed down toward the ground

And placing arms around

Takes nothing but

Dust and air

And ashes that rise to sting the face

And render bitter tasting in the mouth

What then is left

That’s hale or promising

The hope of life for

Tomorrow or even in time that remains today

I think I’ll have the drink that bites

And chew on some bread that’s burnt:

Salt and ashes

Herbs that sting,

Spells of ordinary stuff

Quotidian magic

The miracle in the day might be a breeze;

Some of the dust of flesh

Cobwebs

Might rise off the nightmare,

Lets gazing up to see some yellow light

Falling on new leaves

Caught in early spring

First breaths upon the earth
