Tuesday

a Tuesday to try to be with God

golden ruling

Week

Kind Brief Invocation

Today Is What

x

What is today

After some mental work

It’s Tuesday

In the morning

x

In the ninth month

Against which someone will say

So many days

‘Til Christmas

x

But that’s a cultural thing

(and a commercial thing)

There are so many things

Before

We get there

x

Hallowe’en

Thanksgiving

(in both countries)

The yearly argument

Over which explorer exploited first

x

And up here

(spring there)

It shall be fall

Leaves fall

In glory and defeat

Bare branches left behind

x

Except for evergreens

That we shall value more and more

For symbolizing

Something like forever

Through all the seasons

And we hope

(burn bonfires

to the sky

to sky-gods)

Through the great changes

To forever

At the Table

This is Tuesday

I hope this is

Will be

Or has been

A good Tuesday for you

(or across the world

might have been will be)

Even splendid

You are entitled

One of nearly eight billion

People

Your choices, well, that’s

Up to you

And not a matter for

Anything not like a tribunal

Present

If you are a despot, stop it

If you are a lousy neighbor,

Be a better one

But while the sun is out

(and when the moon is out

and that bemusing time

of dusk or dawn)

Take in free breaths

Let them out with gladness

And, dare I say,

Thanksgiving

For sometimes it is an easy Earth

When and where it’s not

Good breathing’s still required

With assistance added,

When needed

x

And, by the way,

Honey gets in everything

At table

I’m sure there are tricks

The bees know

Maybe through their knees

Lent 35

Lent 35

(a reverie for stories)

It’s Tuesday, day of Tiu

A Nordic personality

Part of a family that respected

Power and defeat

And waiting after for

The judgment of all nations

Beautiful and terrible,

The people and persons of

The Norse

The stories cut into the center

Of all mortal talent and ambition

There, in all, is a lesson

One no single person’s written

It shared by people first and

Then in song, finally in letters rendered

We have these gifts now

The gift of story

Testimony, opera

Thanksgiving in the moments of the telling

God sends us song

And frames all telling inside nature

Praise God today

Thank God for all gospels

Good news that grows us into

Better people

Workers, players, servants of the day
