Pastures Green

(x = space)

x

x

Pastures Green

x

We ask you

You are near

To take us with you

After

As you let us go

Before

With this strange back-and-forth

The holding

Letting go

For the between

x

The life we know

Best we can

Or may

Given potential

And our choices

Matter more

Until

They done

Evolving to obedience

Rejection

Nothing more

x

To train like angels

To rebel

Like angels

To resolve

The war in heaven

So that admittance

To the new Earth

Is allowed

x

A heaven

Made for one

Which was hell’s agenda

Now thrown open

Like windows

Upon spring

From mansions

To interpret

A party in the courtyard

With victory overwhelming

All remembrance

Love and food

For news

Living water all around

For

Life and safety

Wings and colors

All released

For good

The Green Pastures, a great movie, I recall (see it, hear it)

x

“pastures green” in the lyrics of “Brother James’s Air”

x

Love Who What When Where and Why

(x = space)

x

x

Love Who What When Where and Why

(maybe you write about the How)

x

Like water

Love works

On everything

Though heaven

Weeping angels know

We try

To resist

To act as if

Hate were strong

Or acquisition

Better

x

We fight

And war

And ask amiss

Try to take

In fact

Without any asking

x

Sigh

Would relenting

Be so bad

It’s there

It persists

It takes

Maybe the problem is

It takes some

Too

x

Does hate do better

Greed improve

A refusal to surrender

Anything

While we believe that grasping

Has its way

x

We believe that love is weak

That is an ego-problem

Like fat

Round babies

Into angels

(thank you, Renaissance)

We miss the majesty

Deny the awful quality

As in filled with awe

Of love

x

The love that sires

Prophets

The pervasive strength

In their messages

x

That births

That follows us to die

When it is time

Sometimes in service

Or in sacrifice

x

Can one own so much

To give it all

There is nothing that is stronger

More impressive

Move over

Avarice

There’s something much more potent

That begins with one

And then with two

And then with three for family

x

The family of Earth

Nature providing

All the elements available

We don’t even have to war for it

Though we might need

A treaty

Like the covenants

x

Or let love be wild

A little

Let it pervade in forest

Observations

To let the group

Even the crowd

Break out in love

To celebrate

To show

Who is the real boss of us

And who would rather be allied

Than

Love mercenary

Ruled

x

For all affiliations

Love means freedom

It means energy

As Blake says

An eternal delight

x

Love is pleasure

Certainly

It’s sex and power

And everything

To share

The tyranny of love

Better poets say is wrong

Release obsession

As all we want unloving

But the guise

Be let go

x

Let love be true

Mostly restrained

By day

Modest in its style

Until safely

We let go

Or in our modest ceremonies

Affirm it is the best

And through it

Know

That we belong

Wars that Cannot End All Wars

(x = space)

x

x

Wars that Cannot End All Wars

(on D-Day citing Second, other wars)

x

I can’t imagine

All the dead and dying on

That day

I won’t see or hear

Private Ryan

(or

by the way

Titanic)

I’ve known some injury and

Death

From crashes and

From cancer

The

Suicides

By people I have known

x

Sardined into a craft and then

The craft

By planes above

Or guns on shore

Explodes

On its way

To shore

Or those who leave

The boats

And are cut down

Unused guns

Held

Grenades

At hand

x

By the numbers the

Campaign

Was successful

In that the Allies

Overwhelmed the beaches

Finally

Finally

The parts once come together

A hold by hand

As far as

The living and the dead can

Hold

A military grasp

On the edge of Europe

x

A return

As when

MacArthur would return

An axis away

To the Philippines

x

Military plans

And executions

When it’s

Time

We go

x

Citizen expectations

Change

The accepted loss

In Desert Storm

Was zero

(under two

hundred

died)

Though we lingered

In Afghanistan through

Presidents

The war on terror

By the numbers

And at home

x

These were their homes

The beaches

On into

Farms and towns

War anymore

Is always a home

Matter

Your home

Or mine

x

Imagine that

And live it in

Ukraine

And all the burning places

That could be called

Without PR

Sites

Homes

For war

x

Trenches

Chlorine gas

Same place

Years before

That is

France

Greater numbers next

Nuclear

Numbers

In Japan

Winning

Losing

Graves attest

x

Mostly

We try

Nowadays

To keep all of it conventional

Though there are strategies

And plans

That

We must hope

Stay shelved

Recalling

Greater victory is peace

Living on

These same places

This

Same planet

After

6 June 1944

as soon as I realized the date there was a Western (admittedly) instinctive resonance—that something enormous, consequential happened on this date when it was a day a long time ago

The day after

Tolling bells

Half-mast (extra) flags now

Put away

Speeches back in boxes

For the next time

Normal life

The better victory

Goes on

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day

Really, it’s more than us
We’re everywhere, as you know
We have to be
There is no more without us

Shouldn’t that own for us
Respect

And, if nature is not enough,
Then
Consider what we give
Professionally

We gave the X-ray
We gave a right sense of
Nationalism (think on all
The women kings remembered,
Not the kings, like men’s, we
All strive to forget)

We gave you victory in France
Revolutionary pride in the USA
Freedom-speaking around
The world—which goes on
Still: note the young woman
Receiving the Nobel

We are more than
Parenthetical—we are
Partners and princes,
Inventors and advocates

In advocacy, we support so
Much more than ourselves

We write, we preach, we
Make—we take our part with God
In co-creation

Our capacities are great

They’re great for
Pain—for ages until now

What happens next? That
Is the consequential question

To which responding
Requires all of us, unless

You wish a final rebellion
That might take out all
But probably will simply
Leave only us

And who wants that
On and in this day

MLK(J)

More than letters,
Though there were
Amazing ones, is
Love that suffuses

Not to claim
Perfection–I
Could not I do that
For myself

But gentle, numbered
Overwhelming
Victory
Is for those who
Outlast imperfection,

Even as they with
Finality close trap-
Jaws of persecution

Marching persistence
Realizing still, always in
Grace, wondrous change
