mmm muffins
do you
know
the muffin man who lives on
Drury Lane
and
does he keep a shop there
if so
I’d like to go
or shall I wait for cart-wheels’ sounds
to signal
that he’s coming with
his wares to sell
and we shall smell
and set
to buy by that
first thing
coins whose
scient is nowhere near as appealing
anxious trading
chittering as announcement
in
my pocket
wearing or part of a shouldered
purse
the bearer who
wants to buy for breakfast
and
then more

I’ll Come for You
I’ll come for you
When
You are sad
And far away
It seems
I'll come for you
When you are lightless
Then
I shall be light
I’ll come for you
Be the sounding noise
When you are quiet
Find you
On my own
I'll come for you
Stay next
To you
Until
You’re ready
I’ll come for you
And be with you
While the world waits
Or goes on
Without us
As it may
We’ll find an entry once
Again
When ready
You might have wounds
They
Should be tended
Let’s take care of
Those
And be brave
About something else
(remembering
there’s
something brave
in saying ouch
for honesty)
I’ll come for you
And when we’re
Ready
We’ll get up
And move
So slowly back
Into an expected
Life this time with more truth
And carrying a salve
In each other
For any
More pain
I'll come for you

Prognostic Thursday

Sprained or splintered,
I wait to hear
What the x-rays tell
Some kind of brace
To wear for a while
Nothing stronger
Than Tylenol
For the pain (sigh)
It’s not the worst pain
Bearable except for walking
Of standing
Or sitting down
All right, well,
It’s frustrating
There’s not much else
To do for a while
But to stay still
Very contemplative, I’m sure
Except for finding
The quiet, ecstatic joy
The mystics found

Please Wait
Wait
I have something for you
It’s today
I don’t know if you need it
But please take it, anyway
No cost
All you have to do
Is wake a little
In barely an existential way
I don’t mean to pry or push
I didn’t bring the dawn
I’m only asking
For a little time
Go outside
Sponge up everything you can
You don’t have to return
But I’ll wait
In case
You do
It’s fine, I have a book to read
And I can put my life on hold a little
Because the time is worth it for
Discovery of meaning
And if you’ll have it
Maybe you’ll tell me
Maybe not
This is yours
All this is yours
It’s all for you
Redemption in small moments
Sometimes it’s the best
We get to have
An affirmation of a gift
From me to you
On behalf of
One who calls down the day
Each time
Until the last
When small becomes gargantuan
Each thing matters more
For being minor
Yes, I’m not a caller
Not a surrogate
Simply who gets to say, now and then
Yes, it’s all for you
