'round
I have to leave today
if only
for a while
like
his mother leaving for a walk
around the Hundred Acre Wood
and he asking before
would you like
me
to go with you with her replying
no
but when I return
greet me as if
I had been away
a long time
no mother or
another
to whom to say
that
to
or hear that from
though
needing to leave
also
to return
in a later hour
of this day
having gone around

Christopher Milne tells the story of the walk and the question in The Enchanted Places. This Christopher better known as Christopher Robin. (And I nearly forgot mentioning that his name was how I got my own. Christopher, not Robin but for him, anyway, my mom really liking the stories.)

Every Time I
(you, we)
Every time I
Feel the
Spirit
Moving in my heart
I will pray
But I like it
When it moves outside
The heart
Also
Not as proof or evidence
But as
Communion
That spirits are merging
Venning at least
For faith
And sometimes simply for
Delight
Then spirits
Move
We sing and dance
Among the trees
And you wonder from
Where those
Strange lights
Come
In the woods or
Over water
Or horizoning desert
Ridges
Where there might be
Air
Or other medium
For breath
Bursts that
Might be daunting
Maybe
Also invitation
Dance with us to
Say
We move as lights
Be moved

Your story
(see above)
Puts to mind
The mother of
Christopher Robin who
(I may have said
something of this before
don’t stop me
if you’ve heard this)
Took a walk around
The hundred-acre wood
From time to time
And when asked
By her son
Should he join her
She said, no,
But when I return
Greet me as if I had been gone
For a long time
And am returning now
From being away

A fast

I didn’t take my pills,
Either
Or had water

I waited for a while
But this was appointed

They should take me
And they did

I leave with less
Than I came in with
x
I face the day outside,
Later afternoon
x
I wander if the person
Who had miles to go
Felt tired,
Making the desire
To stop a temptation?
x
I get in the car
Hear the tires pressing
On the snow
As I head out
x
Turn the wheel
To point myself
Down one hill
Across some water
Up the other side
x
The sky gets dark
As the miles to go
Are done,
But now I know
x
I don’t know for sure
The measure of the distance
For results
