History of Terrorism
(after bombings in Istanbul,
killing ten so far, wounding fifteen)
“What impresses your most about terrorists?”
“Their hundred-percent failure.”
I heard something like this in a television
Show, well-written show, an episode
First broadcast in the wake of 911
Now we have murder in Istanbul by a
Suicide bomber, so it appears, maybe in
Fearful avenging Turkish strikes against IS
Is ISIS going to have a state? Will the world
Allow that? Explosions, shootings,
Destroying lives with bodies strapped
With bombs: do these all realize such
A difference? Only in wasting, it seems—in
Exploitation and in scorn and in the
World’s resolve to stand together and against
Not a rising storm but rather in a lower
Continuity of tries at terror and of terror
Acts filled with, terribly and finally—you
Know, Macbeth’s signifying sound and fury

I think what strikes me about terrorism is how useless it all is. Many people have causes but they don’t go murdering other people in the name of those causes. It’s dangerous to let a group such as Isis have power over people like they have had. To kill whomever doesn’t follow their fanatics. Reminds me to much about WWII and the Nazi’s and concentrations camps for the Jewish, handicapped, and whoever disagreed with the Nazi view. I think we need to take a stronger stance against them, or there will only be more death for innocents. Freedom always has a price unfortunately. Your poem is truthful and engaging and I appreciate the last line.

I’m grateful for your close response and all your insights that you share. I think the only good that comes out of terrorism is that those who are not terrorists get better and coming and acting together. But there are better ways to do that, too. Terrorism is useless. You’re so right. The Nazis killed the Jews and, you’re right, the disabled, too. (Which I guess means I would been hauled away.) Also gypsies, Poles, Czechs–yes, anyone they thought should be swept off the earth. Now all those folk are here, and the Nazis are gone. Justice is served, and at what cost. If only the innocent, as you say, could be protected from the start. Thank you for your wisdom, MandiBelle. (Sorry, when put together, your name reads as a metred foot. I forget which kind. What is it I should call you again? If anything?)

I often wonder WHY these terrorist prey on the weak, innocents and children. What’s the point? How can anyone look at their actions with sympathy? I understand the flawed concept of looking for someone else to blame for your troubles. Easy to look outside yourself than within. But why poke at the sleeping giants of the world? No one will win this battle. I can’t fathom the mindset.

More often than not, there are no specific targets. The bombing in Istanbul might have been targeting Europeans, but that’s it. Never an individual. Simply destroy as many and as much as possible. I don’t get it, either.
