Sunset Ramadan
(5 June 2016)
I have memories
Of a Ramadan, a
Rosh Hashanah, too
I like the Christian
Holidays, but others
From these faiths
Invited me
To ritual and cuisine
And, best of all,
Community
Love permeates
Actions when they
Are in spirit
Inch’Allah
And our God is
Pleased when we
Are one
Shalom

Interesting to be able to participate. My ex-boyfriend was Muslim. In four-years I experienced a few Ramadans. In trying to remind themselves of how the poor feel I agreed. In not even to supposed to be having water, even when it was 35 degrees outside I did not. My ex had done it since his teen years, was used to it, but I always felt so far from him during Ramadan. Not to mention, he couldn’t even touch me because he wasn’t married to me and when he would get up it would be at night around 10 pm and I was ready to sleep. Lovely poem though. I do agree we all need to get along.

I very much appreciate learning about your experience with Ramadan, especially while in your relationship. I had a much easier time. An Indian couple who were Muslim lived in an apartment near mine. They invited me for an after-sunset Ramadan remembrance. Their interest was in sharing with me the celebratory as well as the thoughtful parts of Ramadan. Then they wanted me to teach them about Christian observances. They are wonderful, far-sighted folk whom I remember deeply, fondly.

amen, Christopher! religion is a man-made divider, God wants us to unite not to be divided.

Amen, Rosema. We must respect–and celebrate–who we are uniquely and united. Thanks!

Love your neighbor as thyself – no matter the domination 🙂

Yes, that’s it. How will we be good neighbors, otherwise? How will we be neighbors at all?

🙂 exactly!

You are quite right with the sense of community during these periods. As Ramadan started yesterday, we’ve already received Iftar invites from friends of ours and it’s quite interesting to know more about them and indeed our God is pleased when we are one.

Good to hear from you, and thank you for your affirmation. I’m happy to hear about the invites you’ve received. Such a wonderful, meaningful opportunity. Peace!

Indeed it is. Thank you 🙂

I like how you included the religious beliefs of all faiths in your poem. God certainly wants His humans to get along.Today is the 15th day of Ramadhan. I’m happy we have successfully finished half of the month, the other half would not be difficult as we are now used to it. Salaam(Peace be on you). 🙂

Thank you! Your response means a great deal to me. I trust the second part of Ramadan will be good for you and yours. Peace (salaam) to you.
