Timpi
Timpi
Timpani
Steady the beat
Avoid the roll
That ends with
A set of
Cymbals’ crash
Self-control
Must be a challenge
In the heat
Even the heat
Inside the
Body
Or maybe in-
Between
Two bodies
Maybe in some
Atoms of
Moments, we
Find control,
Once we
Release it
And yet
Restraint—take
A moment, take
A breath—is
Not a bad
Course, either
Listen
Watch and learn
The lessons
And the rhythms
Of life are
Coming at you
Some assembly
With discretion
Required
Before we
Let all run
And run away

Nicely done.”Some Assembly of discretion required,” speaks of a vital way we must control ourselves.

Thanks, Mandi! If we need more self-control than we have, I guess we do some inner reconstructing.

I laughed when I read your response. I have a clever sister! My sister Amy is clever, too. So that’s two deft and witty sisters!

Yay! I am glad I have a companion and we both have a wise brother! 🙂

Aye to this! So true and brilliantly done. For someone as impulsive and spontaneous as me, retrospection and thinking twice have alwaaaays been a challenge. I’m still working on this aspect though. 🙂
Yet, I especially love this line. This resonates to me a thousand times. ❤

Thank you, Maria! I’m glad you like that part especially. I do wonder if, in surrendering control, we find new ways to lead and express our impulses. I certainly struggle with impulse–though being spontaneous sounds good, doesn’t it?

I believe it depends on the situation. Like, for example, in art. I find it easy to write out of impulse and sketch when I follow no rules. I guess it depends on our personality types as well. Some find peace in having control over things, etc. while others feels completely the opposite. 🙂 And yes, spontaneous sounds great, too!

Making art, I agree, would seem to be a process of impulse. But then I tend to favor abstract contemporary art. I guess there are traditional disciplines that one might follow. When it comes to writing, I think spontaneity matters. Though we can’t go so far afield as to be impossibly not-understood. Self-expression balanced with reaching others? Maybe.
Thanks for your considerate, thoughtful comments!
