It Can Be Christmas Now
(for those who might be on to something not to want to wait)
It’s Christmas now
Might as well be
The markets are done
Some are marching on
Like soft-tin soldiers in a toyland
Hoping to go home
For a holiday
(deserved)
The discounts are deepening
But the first great breaths have breathed
And it’s a few to go
Up to the finish line
(God bless them)
It’s Christmas now
It might as well be
The season has a different name
Until the day christens itself a new time
For twelve days
A catechetical song
Says so
It might as well be Christmas
We could breathe into it
How many movies, songs,
And consecrations do we need?
We can have it Christmas
Regardless (and because) of our creed
Right now

I was walking in the center of Moscow through the crowded fair and realized that some decorations look like small beautiful stars in the sky. Don’t you think so? 🙂

The decorations look like stars and stars look like decorations and I have lost any idea I had of what Christmas is all about.

Yes. I guess I was thinking that we could stop where we are and what we’re doing and simply have the holiday especially on the inside with what we got. When I went to look for an image and found the person from Moscow’s story, I thought, this gets it even better. Stop, look up, enjoy.

Yes, we can, as long as we know that what we want from Christmas it is not to have but to be part of something.
It’s become a self-fulfilling prophecy, has its own momentum, and it’s perhaps the decorations that have replaced real wonders that symbolise the artificiality of the ‘festive’ season to well.

I’m happy to see this poem. I agree it an be Christmas now & and it can be Christmas for longer lol. My fav season and your poetry portrays this nicely. It also brings in the religious aspect of advent and the creed well too. Hope you’re well my friend AHS staying warm. Cold here, always. Can’t wait until Spring lol.

Hey, it’s you! Hi, you! So good to hear from you! Thanks for your close and thoughtful engagement with my work (as always). I was getting a little worried about everyone who’s really worried about getting everything done. I thought, well, we could just stop everything now and say it’s Christmas with what we have and what we don’t. After the shock of this, maybe some folk could relax.
I’m sorry about the cold. Here it’s dreary is all. It might snow for the first time overnight. You must have ways to deal with the season. For now, it’s Christmas time, thank goodness! Please know, Amanda, you are in my prayers. It’s not hard to remember.

Hi Christopher (again). Thank you fi your prayers. I value them & they bring me hope in this dreary season. I love the snow, but hate the cold, enjoying hockey right now though. The oilers have been playing well. I like to read your poems, they’re very good and such thoughtful messages. Stay well.

It’s great to hear from you, Amanda. I’m gratified, truly, that you like the poems. I concur about favoring snow but not the cold. I’m sorry it’s so dreary. Even though I root for the Penguins, I’ll be glad to favor the Oilers this time ’round. I hope your Christmas day is warm inside and outside (or wrapped up for the outside).

Thanks. Yes, big hockey 🏒 now that we’re half way through the season. Oilers have to pick it up again though. Take care

Oh dear brother. I am grinning as well. This line is so so so epic: The discounts are deepening.
Commercialism is part of this holiday, eh? Either way the message is poignant. We can have it now. Anytime. For long. However we want it. ❤

Sister, I’m so glad you’re grinning. I should be astounded that I get or come across so many advertisements that make buying more and more enticing. Or are suppose to do that. Maybe that’s why I though for those who want to take a break and say they’re done and Merry Christmas, why not?
I know you’ll have a holiday that is both faithful and fun.

HAHA! That is so true. It is sad that Christmas has been a season of “buying” more than ever. Would have been lovelier to have a simple feast with the family, the ones who matter.
Thank you, brother! May yours be blessed, too!
