Heard Outside the Window
Town birds call each other early
For the farmer’s market
In the square
Come on! They drop the good stuff
All morning long!
We can watch from wires high above
All the antics
We’ll have all the fun
And be filled
We wake up at dawn, and we’re ready
We serenade the humans,
And they’re soft for us
Why not, we like the singing, too
Fit for forest still
But we’ll stay here for a while

Saturday is market day for everyone, even pigeons and those two are beauties.

Aren’t they something? I was lucky; all I did was search for “birds.” I can imagine the one pigeon talking to the other. The outdoor market will return in my small town when the weather and the season turn. Yep, it’s on Saturday. I’m glad we have it.

Markets are good things. They are much more of a human meeting place than indoor supermarkets where all the produce is under plastic. May yours return soon!

This is so true! We live near a nature reserve, so we see storks, birds of prey, flocks of starlings, a private flock of carrier pigeons that live nearby, and tons of crows and magpies. The latter two keep us entertained on the rooftop of the neighbouring building. 😉 We often wonder what goes through their minds during their (sometimes very vocal) conversations!
