Look Both Ways

Pangloss is partially
Correct: we should work
In our gardens
x
And if we have no gardens
And if our neighbors’ gardens
Suffer wilting
Or a fire,
If the gardener is suffering
x
Well, this is where
Pangloss is wrong
And Voltaire’s cynicism
Doesn’t serve
For we must turn
Toward the peril,
Loaning our muscles
And our tools
x
We must repair
So that a land of gardens is
Healthy
And whole
And providing

Yes, we have to turn toward healing both ours and our neighbors garden! The Locust invasion seems to now have passed!
