bad news

Friends, acquaintances, blog-readers of many sorts,

I am very sick. My apartment has been filled with mold and milder since the summer. I’ve tried to get some treatment for the place and gotten rid of many things I cannot keep, due to infestation. By now, I’ve run out of time and money. I don’t know what that means except that in my current state I’m probably going to miss all sorts of things I’d otherwise be doing or at least think of doing.

I’ll try to go on posting, though that might change as well.

And I have reported the problem to the landlord who denies there’s a problem and then raised the rent. Penalty for complaining, I suppose.

Guess that’s it for now. If you continue being in touch, I shall be glad. I’ll simply be worse at responding than usual.

I’ll be letting you know, of course, when things should change.

Thank you

Christopher

In conversation, I prefer Christopher. My mom named me after Christopher Robin, after all. In writing, I use “C L Couch” (or, more simply, “c l couch”) because the form is genderless and also frankly easier to use. I have awful writer’s cramp. I am an educator more or less retired, more or less due to disability. At present, I live in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania (USA). My writing here I mean to be occasional and also devotional. Either or both. The banner and profile photographs are by my friend and peer Debra Danielson. More of Debbie’s work to be enjoyed is at debradanielson.org. Thanks to each of you and both and all for coming to my blog.

I am so sorry to hear this, my friend. I will be praying for you and this situation. I don’t know why landlords can be so awful. Have you spoken with the housing authority?

Dear CL, I am so, so sorry to hear this. I had a similar mold problem a few years ago. I wound up throwing away a lot of moldy things, – books etc. (really anything that had mold. It was behind photos on the wall, and on furniture – which I washed clean. I washed the walls with a Mold Killer https://www.amazon.com/RMR-86-Instant-Mildew-Stain-Remover/dp/B0858LDFBW?th=1 and then I painted with a mold resistant paint, there are quite a few to choose from. I ran an icon machine to remove mold from the air. If you could find somewhere to rent an “ozon machine” that cleans the environment that would be great. I got a “Blue Air” air purifier and a dehumidifier and made sure I was keeping the moisture level low. I am so sorry you are sick my friend. If you want to “talk mold remedies” email me through Leaf & Twig. I looked but didn’t find an email for you. Take good care. Catherine

Is there an outside agency that can help with this? Perhaps have they visit and see for themselves?
