easy awe
how frightened should we be of God
to know the power
that
nothing could hold against
so that a weapon of deception
is
the only choice
for devils
since nothing material
if owned
could
stand a chance as in pitching
God’s own
against
God’s own
and yet a God of love
who
waits for choosing
maybe
by still water
or in the troughs of war
or
by the bedside
when
the sickness is bad
or
with the victims of the drought
that
civil conflicts caused
or
because dry seasons happen
anyway
and that is power
too
and so to hate or love
or
frustrate the faith
for
everything that’s giving and that’s taking
God
who seems to have chosen for God
an invisible place
from which to offer presence
and so
the paradox of that
for faith
truth in the trees
or at
the hilltop where the sun has danced
and
thousands choose it is
the bright and
even painful
show
of God
show for
real
and for them proof enough to choose
and
now
for the rest
only with evidence unseen
and filtered through a dark glass
of our insight
at
best
and what we shall believe
while love even to forestall power
awaits

I’m nervous over an operation I have tomorrow
I’m nervous when you have operations
valleys of fear
fear
the Lord
so we won’t fear on Earth
and yet
we’re human
and we will
I think I’ve read that
fear is not of God
which
sounds ominous for all we have it
and
have it closely
well
we’re flawed
blame everything
and
yes
I think it all gets better when
we’re well
and
when we’re well for good
sigh
and I’ve done a little checking to distinguish
fear
the spirit of fear from Timothy
the fear not
given us
the fear that begins
wisdom from
Proverbs that is
the fear
of God
and I’ve thought the second fear
is awe
and should we ever meet
in the same room how
would we
fear the Lord
when
even angels address fear as in fear-not
severally when they appear
fear
don’t be afraid
keep the wonder
maybe
the truth closely of God
and
God with us
and
yeah
I’m still worried for tomorrow
and I worry over you

because the line in me goes back
to childhood
with what is remembered
keenly felt

I think I am supposed to be invisible

youthful society
of all those whippersnappers

I think I’m pushed to say
how good
things are for them
yet they might know
while
I have some whipping

sharp)

(whatever)
snapping still to
snap
new robes of office
like those honestly
wary
by the lords in Macbeth
or
the pretending gift of Medea’s
poisoned cloak
that
once worn bursts in flame
for
all our sins
piled on to curse
to prove energy
though
delight can become danger
when
expended
if like the artist
no longer young yet
working out
significance in what is now
(again
obliged)
the dry time of
the day
so then try
untry
if not unfeared the journey not
untrapped
by who is the child
who
is older

I drive under the sun
hoping to leave the car

parked
to get inside
before the heat
sights too directly and too
much on me while I

the heated keyhole

of my pocket

dense
green wooden door of
the eccentric-angled yellow house
with the broken portico under
hopefully
again to navigate
which
is not the heat
but every day
and there it is the rounded poorly-matted
stoop

key inside beneath the wave

breathing
maybe to sneeze

from the central air
only on the first floor
not
on mine

mermaids on waved rocks

intimacy
which is the part of God
that should amaze

does sometimes in songs and
testimony

And it’s the weekend
Time for wondering
Perhaps
