shall
so yesterday maybe
was
Shakespeare’s birthday
if if was on that
date and
you know
if
there were such a person
I mean
I’m pedestrian though
I have close degrees
as well
and think he was
and
was the poet and the playwright
though I
appreciate
the mysteries
no plays published until after
life
no notations of his education or any
if any
travel
no portraits done while he was living
either
the portrait that we think we know
is a guess
though
we get used to it
for him
don’t
we
the plays changed the world
they changed me
and you may believe that
they
changed you
though it was the poetry
the sonnets
that first brought him fame and money
then
acting and producing
since playwriting wasn’t given so much shrift
which might to explain a mystery
you know
and
Shall I compare thee to a summer day
when yet
Thou art more lovely and more temperate
which is
the day
rather like today
spring
and yet so green and passing
tractors blading
as
the summer season signs
and then true minds
as I shall say
then cite
against
for wisdom
Which alters when it alteration finds
that lives verse
and
our lives
and may I note resides as true love in The Princess Bride
and
that’s good learning of
good wisdom
we
don’t follow
and we
should
that’s all
we should
that is
love there without exception
of
what we think to change that by the way we
won't
and read more poetry and watch
more
plays
and note the authors as best we may
since there is more than
one
conundrum in
knowing who they
were
c l couch
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments; love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.

snow and God—only one is white, the other all colors (2 poems)
the ends of Earth
in the north
though not quite there
we tend to think of
snow
this way
so we flock the marketplaces
with lists
for liturgies
and we might need these things
if
not for the not
we shall be
snowed in
hoping not for enough
but
honestly
for more than
with enough
perhaps
electric
and electrons
to share
folding chairs in parking
spaces
that should be public
though the chairs
are in an attitude of waiting
by
the doors
an encroachment on
an agenda to stay
clear
first inside the head
remembering
(or
maybe first)
the heart
the
spirit
to follow
then in the summer
those of us
not
south of south
shall fear the other
extreme
heat
with all the heat we might become
and that hear
on the inside
even
now
(based on being told the snow shall fall at midnight)
shall
and how shall God
love us when
we hate
whatever beside evil
with evil’s
agency
injustice
we may scorn these
and all the rest
be love
thoughts
emotions
plans
the new instinct once we
have faith
to love
when dangerous
or fragile
at the least
and God shall
love
yet somehow never
on condition
but
to love
which might make
salvation
a condition
as
decision
binding us both
with an amazing fear
not
comprehending though
we all somehow agreed to
live and
after
life

(keep trying)
I’m sorry for the fire
Sorrier for all the hungry people
Were the lady to advise us
Though worship is important
Starving is not conducive
There is no medieval lumber
Tall enough to do the job
Of the first beams
That is fine, we can go with something
Like aluminum
That will not rust or
Easily catch fire (again)
But organic need cries out
Toward another kind
Of construction
Empty people
Feed us
What shall we say,
There are too many now
And now there will be many more?
Maybe we need to reach up
Further than vaulting
Ingenious plans
Already on the table
We have the means for everything
Tall churches, too
Because we won’t have Paris
Not all of us
What shall we have?
I think you know by now
Ages of temperament
And we are less impaired
Have garnered so much more
The answer in the
Question
When we ask
You know it starts with will
You know everything worthwhile
Begins and ends with shall
Then will

Visit to a Third Planet
Who’s hungry
Raise your hands
Now those of you who have
Extra food
There are millions of you
And we’ll take it one by one
Find an outstretched hand
Take hold
Place food in it
If need be, help with preparation
Then be pleased to sit
At the table
Anyone who’s cold
Millions of you with extra blankets
One by one, gently and firmly
Place them
Around
Anyone who’s thirsty
Is a bigger deal
Because we keep poisoning the water
But for now there still is more
Pass it out in safe containers
To those for whom
Answering thirst is life
Who needs shelter
Millions of us know how to
Build roofs and walls
And bridges that will get
Each one security
To home
Now who’s lonely
Who’s afraid
Who needs countries that provide
They’re here
They can help
Can all the multitudes
Nations and people
Provide assistance
Well, we can
I think we know
That we can
We shall
