God speaks
Through storm
And through the rising flower
Listen
For the goodness
And, if it has to be, chastisement
Before all love returns or
So it seems
From a place it never left
The human will and mind and spirit
Love of all
Excelling loves
Perfection so near
In moving water and the fire that for now
Is contained
Inside dissolution
Ruin or old age
Waiting for will to turn so that
The paradox
The ears to hear will hear

Delightful, as ever, Christopher. Just listening to the flow of words is prayerful in itself. I have to say I have been pondering the following “Before all love returns or So it seems From a place it never left”. Is this in the context of God, where the love of God rests eternally in our heart, even though we stray from God, God resides in us and waits for our return”? See what you’re doing. I’m starting to treat your poetry as a meditation.

Thank you, Len! Yes, I was thinking of God’s presence that remains no matter what we think is going on. I like the way you say it–we stray from God and God waits patiently for our return. As for my poetry as meditation, well, that’s high praise and maybe more than what the work deserves. But I’m enjoying reading your close, thoughtful responses.
