They Seek Him There
x
O God, our help
In ages past
Our hope for years to come
x
And what do we need today
But to know you are near
Some miracles would not go
Amiss, I must confess
(unless they do)
For a week of flood and fire
End or start to war
A sickness that has taken many lives
Corruption from the fruit of Eden
For the way we ate
For the way we live
For the way we want to live
On this side or that

Scarlet Pimpernel (Anagallis arvensis) is a summer annual plant and a member of the primrose family. As its name suggest[s,] it has bright red/orange flowers, which only open when the sun shines.

It is hard to feel the closeness of God in all the mess the world is in right now. It’s nice to know he is still here even in this dark time. Thank you for sharing this encouraging poem.

My pleasure. You’re right, sometimes it is hard to know that God is here. Maybe we all–me, too–need to know that God is with us especially in dark times.

Ah yes, Leslie Howard and Merle Oberon. Great movie. Though I thought the title was going to be Dr. Suess. “They seek him here, they seek him there, they seek him everywhere…” Green Eggs and Ham. Though wasn’t there actually a riddle or poem ditty in that movie that was like that? I haven’t seen it in over 30 years.

It is a great movie; Howard and Oberon are terrific. I think the rhythm and rhyme is right for Green Eggs and Ham. Time to hear it again.

Beautiful poem and picture. I have seen the movie but never thought to wonder exactly what a scarlet pimpernel was (probably presumed it was a last name). I am glad now to know. 🙂

Thank you! I didn’t know what a scarlet pimpernel was for real for a long time, either.
