And, But, Or, Nor, For, Yet, So

x

What do I do

When God is gone?

A question I don’t have to ask

Because it doesn’t happen

God doesn’t go away

I do

I go away when I want

To think of someone else

Of something that I want

That I shouldn’t have

When I need

Or presume to need

Enough to bump out God

From my awareness,

Which qualifies the need

As something else

x

This is straightforward:

I choose to have God in my life

Closer to me, anyway

Since God is there

Creating

Maintaining

Weeping or laughing at

What we do

Preparing for Parousia

Yet

Cherishing each moment

The now we have

We linear beings

Meaning for us

It’s a saving moment

To a saving moment

x

God is close

God is inherent

In electrons

And cellular nuclei

God will become more obvious

As we wish

As we choose

As we ask it so

(the asking’s prayer)

The devil has many ways

To snare us away

It is agenda

Of the kind that pushes will

And understanding

Inside a frame that illustrate

An attitude

Against people and the

Environment

The Earth we stand or glide

Or rest upon

All of which, the devil says,

Is unimportant

When favoring

Profit

Unhuman strategies

(inhumane)

That only matter as

Winning so that the rest

Are losers

x

Who is lost?

The burden’s hard

The burden’s easy

It’s paradox

Of faith

Of belief in God who’s only known

Through evidence unseen

Who wins a case through this?

x

Such contradictions

Such opposites

The world we love must be eschewed

If we would live, there is first

The inevitability of dying

Sheesh

No thank you

Or thank you

Our will to embrace

To choose

To live in love

With the good in everything

With faith

And hard belief that has gentle edges

In what we show each other

(as in manifest)

In what we sense

And how we deal

With everyone

With everything

By which and in which

A spirit accompanies

For good

For upbuilding

For faith

And, yes, for love

x

We live in hope

That God is there

That God is there when we return

Or when we turn around

In attitude

Repentance

Sorry and a new embrace

Of faith

Gove love this Earth

And the extraordinary creatures

That you’ve made

That is each of us

Not that we are perfect

Or perfectly anything

But in everyone

And everything

The three remain close by

The three remain close by

we could be pleased

with what we had

and sad for what is missed

we could love what there is

let go the hate for

what was taken

who took it

we could love with a love

not pure, because there’s always

imperfection

we could correct and sigh

sigh and correct over faults

x

we could love

because alternatives shall drive us

into places where

no one really wants to go

or stay

more so, we could come home

to the dwelling of our hearts

and smarter thoughts

inside the land that God more fully made

that shall remain

when the rest

the doubt, the pain, even scorn

shall fall away

while love remain

Please Pass the Pray

(x = space)

x

x

Please Pass the Pray

x

Welcome home the victims

Heal the victims here

x

Quick prayer for those who died

And those who are wounded

And still here

x

Something in the house

Or in the car

Aloud or silently

It counts

The most basic ask of intercession

x

Like asking God

Be with whoever’s involved

In that emergency

Who are these people?

Someone knows

x

What is needed by way of comfort

Or of sutures

Or of passage?

Someone knows

We don’t know

Maybe we don’t have to

x

Prayer is involvement

Even anonymous

That works

We may not know the outcomes

That is faith

all earthly alliances

whose treaties are for war

in violation

with a claim

to win the world

x

God will fight us

weeping

with the rain

no doubt of victory,

would rather gather us

on a field

for celebration

will take the victory

if we shall give it

insisting we are right

in no other way

x

dawn after

final skirmishes at night

surrendered remnants will

be healed

and taken home

surprising what was won

in defeat

who was the foe

we battered in the dark

who struck

who struck

we have forgotten

or will forget

with a will

x

the place is clean

Earth an altar

all other altars served

without knowing

the template

last sacrifices needed

and these weren’t

x

we will come home

quiet first

names

and wounds

the celebration shall come

later when renewed

x

when we awake forever

a universe

to get to know

and new assignments

x

there is a party

only for an age or so

inside new heaven

over new Earth

lord

what shall we give

but everything

and what is everything?

if i offer myself upon an altar

then will you send an angel

to stay my hand?

if i offer up my part in relationships

will you have an angel

tell me

not so much

before i am alone?

if it’s my wardrobe or accounts

or the corporation or the army

(like saint francis)

or plans

x

earthly luxury

or earthly victory

will you send a hallelujah chorus

to tell me, no, not that much?

or will you tell me to keep

going:

my body to begin with

as a living sacrifice,

my mind turning only as you turn it,

the sadness of

living against the world

for the renewing of my mind

x

my body as a sacrifice

in worship

without sacrificing animals

or the worldly counterparts

but sacrificing me

the only thing to set apart,

holy for you

x

could you ask that much

or do you ask that much all the time

while i do not hear?

then i should listen with the

hearing that you gave me

What do you want of me,

God?

Maybe the next hour

Or tomorrow

Or the moment

That is the only thing

I know for sure

There is

And now the next one

x

What is your will

And should I ask?

Maybe I don’t need to

Maybe knowing is for

Greater ones

Than I

The ones for histories

Who rated visions

The certainly

Of steps to take

x

I muddle

And you, reading,

Muddle like me

If you’re like me

Maybe it’s easy

There is an easy need

For something

And we move

We save considerations

For contemplation

Conversations

That may never happen

x

If a bomb

Should crash this wall

If should be in bed

Because of illness

Then all there is to think about

If thought is clear

Is to survive the time

Allowed

Against sadnesses

Even the world’s evil

x

Hunger

Should affect me thus

Or thirst for something safe

Or doubt for faith

Should that be the exchange

For everything vile

That may come upon me

Come upon us

x

Since, actually,

I might be moved with

Greater intensity

Should it happen to you

x

I shall believe

And ask

Even as confidence fades

That I shall ever know

That you shall ever tell me

What would please you

What would serve you

Not in an epic

But small verses

That could

Make

At least delineate

A life

x

x

By and By

x

The circle won’t be broken

Let’s say again

Let’s sing again

Let’s dance again

Wonderful rings

That only break

To let someone in

Newcomers

Those returned

From the field

One kind or another

Outside there is potluck

Everyone bring

Something

While without doubt

Those without

Are so very, very welcome

Honey, too

x

You take my hand

And come along

All are welcome

Don’t worry about

That other thing for now

If you’re tired,

Rest first

Hungry, thirsty

Take care of that

We’ll be watching over you

Like angels from

The other song

Our circle is strong

We get the idea from the sun

And moon

And heaven

Heaven knows

x

God there

God here

Welcome, child

No, we do not care

About that

Come as you are

Heh-heh

Come eat

Come drink

Come dance

Hurry Up, Please, It’s Time

(x = space)

x

x

Hurry Up, Please, It’s Time

x

Time to pray

My God, you are here

Sometimes your presence

Seems so thin

Like vapor

In the morning

Then sometimes a

Numbered weight

Sometimes a fire

That frights

x

It’s how we imagine you

Though you are manifest

As you are manifest

Not invisible

Not hiding behind a tree

Awaiting human mischief

For a peak

You are not voyeurish

x

As it is, you’ve seen it

Heard it

Touched it all

Our antics are not of interest

Unless we should please you

x

That would be

A forest of content

With scenes of love and action

(love in action)

That would delight

In fact

And in fact

Of all the constituents

Of nature

And believers

x

Animals might pray

Might live in prayer

We must talk

Must confess

Must ask

Though, yes, we may

Keep it in the mind

Just behind

Or just inside our tongues

x

You hear us

Remarkably, some time

And every time,

Which is the miracle

The need

Even the requirement

To pray

For us to mutter something

You to hear

x

Sorry

Thanks

Love

Amen

Stained/Strained Glass

x

O God,

We believe

Variously

x

Most of the world

(mid- to upper-nineties)

Believe in you

Some way

Somehow

x

I know what

I must believe

But am loath (to use

an antique word)

To insist

That the next one

Must believe as I

x

I’d rather have respect

For belief, lack of belief

And for us meeting

Anyway,

This way

Transacting with each other

And the Earth

x

Bad evangelism, maybe

For us all to meet

With friendship and respect

(as if meeting

friendship and respect

as angels met in

Baucis and Philemon)

To realize

Humanity

Alive on Earth

x

Withholding conscripted hands

By the switch

That only proves

Annihilation

x

So we learn

And maybe for petition,

Maybe gently pushing us

To places where people

Of Earth

Believe otherly

Or don’t believe

But worthy

On both sides

All sides

All around

x

And welcome

To the table

Of the Earth

Amen
